How far out in the middle of the road does he need to be - he even seems to quickly move out further when the car approached from behind, and then tooted him with his ridiculous fking horn as he went past.

Cock.
Slightly to the right of the longitudinal pot hole @0.29, quite wide enough to have you off the bike.
If you read the comments, what happened was that the cyclist turned into that road failing to give way, forcing the approaching car to brake because the traffic island meant the gap was then too narrow to safely pass, the cyclist's ludicrous self-justification is that the car must have been approaching too fast!

It's just the typical inconsiderate complete disregard that these types of cyclist exhibit all the time, and then blame car drivers.

The road surface is a complete irrelevance, other than it wouldn't have bothered me at all, he could easily have been inside the 'linear defect' if he had adopted a considerate position sooner, it was deliberate antagonistic car blocking.

The cyclists position and or previous events are irrelevant the car drive still shouldn't be passing that close. Yes the cyclist could be more considerate but that doesn't excuse dangerous driving.

Too far out at some points but the safest way through a pinch point on a bike is straight down the centre to ensure no one attempts an overtake when space is tight.
to me it looked like the cyclist was avoiding that massive pot hole.
...except that he just stayed in the middle for a very long time after passing the pothole.

It's a cycle lane with five junctions that then spits you back on the road after less than one hundred yards. I can see why it's unused hehe

ETA, I'm referring to the earlier clip. Matey in that one is a knob jockey to be sure...

At 50, I guess they have more time to see you coming and vice versa, your stopping distance is less, your cars kinetic energy is less. There are many reason its probably safer to drive a bit slower. Do I honestly think its ok to plough into workmen at 50? I'm assuming as you feel you've had to ask that question, you expect my answer to be yes?

I can't comment for the limit when no workforce are about.

Are you a barrier engineer? I've seen cars mount and traverse barriers, sometimes i've seen '50' safety limits when men have been hanging off the side of a trucks placing or picking up traffic cones. Where are these barriers for protection then?

As for the speed camera comment, I think I mentioned above the reason for our overcautious limits these days.
The 'more time to see' bit is a bit of a red herring. You should always be driving so you can safely stop in the distance you can see to be clear.
When visibility is good and nothing's being obscured by bends, humps, other vehicles etc, your speed is generally almost immaterial to achieving that - leaving aside insanely high speeds, perhaps.
If you can't stop within the distance you can see to be clear then you should be slowing down until you can - regardless of what the speed limit is (50 can sometimes be far too fast)

Regarding barriers, I did say that a car would probably bounce off, not implying that this was always the case. But a lorry is far and away more likely to breach the barrier than a car, so if safety is paramount then shouldn't we be limiting lorries to a far lower speed (say 10mph) in roadworks?

And I wasn't talking about when there are no barriers. Do you think the limit should be lower where no barriers exist?

Cock.
The road surface to the left of the cyclist is clearly unsuitable for road bikes.

I take it neither of you two cool dudes have ever taken a back road when there's a perfectly good motorway or A-road available nearby?

Oh, what's that? There are various reasons why you'd rather use the B-road? There you go then. They're not compulsory to use (unless signed as such which those videos weren't) so it's tough titties.

I was almost willing to give him the benefit of the doubt on that one, but having seen his other videos - not so much.

He's from around my neck of the woods, Bristol. There are some special cyclists here, but he appears to be a cut above them.

And they have taken over the council, some mad mad st coming from them in the near future. Loads of roads now where the Lycra Lancers can go faster than the cars.

ok, go on explain to me as a former cyclist why you wouldn't use a smooth, traffic, rubble, pothole free piece of tarmac.

wait I know, its because you ride a road bike that is unfit for use on uk's roads. A piece of equipment that is more focused than my track bike. So when you have to bunny hop up a kerb you break it or more likely you don't have the ability to lift the front wheel off the ground without slamming it down 2 seconds later. rolleyes

Cycle paths that are better than the roads get used, those that aren't, don't.

I couldn't give a st about drawing a clever analogy or whether it's fking compulsory or not, no one is questioning that, it's just as our learned friend said - "a fkin pet hate".
I'm not cool either, a dude is also probably stretching it a bit as well.
