And they have taken over the council, some mad mad st coming from them in the near future. Loads of roads now where the Lycra Lancers can go faster than the cars.
There is. twatchops Ferguson won't be happy until no-one can use a car in Bristol.

Haha yes it reminds me of a Scalextric too. I didn't want to bore you with Sunningdale to Englefield Green all at 30mph so I figured I'd have a go at speeding it up. At the second set of lights, the first ones to turn green are right turn only. If you look carefully through the glare you can just about make out that both show a green arrow rather than a circular green signal. The van/minibus thing in front of the Ka (in front of me) goes when the right turn goes, and I hoot at him to try to get him to realise that he's going through on red. At first I just thought he was moving forward to the line, so I didn't react immediately.

What do you make of the U-turn woman? If I'm doing that I make sure nobody's coming and signal my intentions - she just ploughed on with it!
Probably done same as you, ie. come to a stop, let out a sigh and thought "what the juddering fk?!" and then driven on. Years ago I would've raced up to the side of her, held the horn down for a full 10 seconds and been hanging out of the window yelling obscenities whilst waving my arms about, but now I rarely use the horn in anger and just accept that the majority of drivers I have to share the roads with are thick as fk and can't drive for toffee. frown

Blimey how can he have any issue with the Civic that passed him! he looks like he is waaay out in the road

The trouble with the cycle lanes near me, I use them most of the time, especially when it is busy but:

  • Most are shared paths, so you are mixing kids and elderly , they hate cyclists more than cars and to be fair you end up going very very slowly as they never hear you even with a bell and shouting "morning"
  • Several cycle paths near me, just end. Suddenly end! Meaning you then have to cross the road and up over a verge, takes bloody ages and makes no sense
  • This time of year they aren't gritted and leaves can be lethal
  • Some often go past peoples driveway entrances, when they backout, often you cant see them and they cant see you. Wokingham to Reading was a complete pita for this, I felt safer on the road by miles!
Ive even swapped my road bikes for a stty commuter bike for £90 that can handdle pot holes/gravel/boucing up kerbs , but some cycle ways/paths are at best a PITA at worse dangerous!

I do try and use them whenever I can for my own safety and not to hold up cars.

Also so many cyclists though do no favours and are knobs! There are loads that are good, but you never notice them

I hate that bloody junction where the A1 and a A406 merge for a bit and then go their desperate ways. NO fkER knows where to go despite everything being clearly signed. Audi driver probably on something. Most people in that area are.

This.

It's frustrating to see this comment on PH again, because it's obvious the cyclist has decided not to use it for a reason. But people see the cyclist and think he must be a right fkwit right? Well no, he or she is just trying to get where they're going without being knocked off. A shame that people can't see things from a different perspective sometimes.

Another reason not to use the ones on the pavement is they cross junctions entering/exiting the main road like a pavement does. There's one near me with about 10 within 1 mile. You have to stop every 100-200 metres to cross, so I use the road. A separate cycle path that is maintained and has priority over traffic entering just like the actual road, WILL get used. They have those in the Netherlands and Denmark, so we can have them too.

P.S I'm not siding with the cyclists other actions, just stating the reasons cyclists don't use the poor excuse for cycle infrastructure in the UK.

Actually that's pretty good stuff right there. I went to Uni in Bristol in the mid 90's and we used to go out night riding around Ashton Bashton/Leigh Woods. Light tech was in it's infancy back then and decent lights were £150 plus - big coin for students. So, we set our own lighting rigs up also using 50mm plumbing and rechargeable brick batteries stuffed into a bottle and gaffered into the water bottle cage.

Good times.

+1 Have to have your wits about you round there. Had a LWB Transit decide he wanted to be on the A406 not the A1 the last possible second at the bit where it splits. Nearly took the front of my car off! Luckily I saw what was happening in my right door mirror because I am a driving god.

I take it neither of you two cool dudes have ever taken a back road when there's a perfectly good motorway or A-road available nearby?

Oh, what's that? There are various reasons why you'd rather use the B-road? There you go then. They're not compulsory to use (unless signed as such which those videos weren't) so it's tough titties.
No, you're right, but I think you should use the safest means of travel surely?

If I cycle somewhere I use the cycle path wherever possible. Because I'm not at the behest of car users and generally most pedestrians are far more easy going than cars in terms of what MAY happen if you collide.
