If it came from Youngs it might not have even been a real RS1800..... he certainley sold some crap iffy stuff back then. He did get the odd gem in though in fairness, but we generally told club members (or prospective club members) looking for a car to NOT go to Youngs.I told my cousin as well when he was looking for a Mk2 RS2, but he didn't listen and bought one from Youings anyway......and what a dog it was as well under the skin.

He didn't keep it that long as he was reluctant to mod it in anyway ( unlike the rest of us with the cheaper T88/Crossflow engined cars ). Had a great sound to it though
I remember Mike Young buying one of my RS2's one dark night, it was a quick one on Dellorto's with a Ford group one engine, his description of it in his advert didn't sound much like my car though and I think he put the engine in something else eventually.I love Mk2 RS Escorts. I shouldn't, but I do. I am fortunate that I was involved heavily with the RSOC in the late 80's, early 90's as the magazine editor, so got to drive some beauties including gen RS1800s, low mileage, original Group 1 RS2000s and YB Cosworth engined 2000s. Owned two Venetian red RS2000s too.
the white and gold escort looks very simmilar to what was being raced in thunder special saloons in the 80's,i think it was sponsored by some wool company.
i see theres a bit of mike young bashing going on here but come on he only sold what people previously owned so if the car wasn't like a new one it wasn't his fault was it.
always gets me when people have sly digs like that,where were you supposed to buy a brand new condition mk2 rs2000 or rs1800 from and do say a part ex or get finance from the mid 80's up to say 1993 or 94 when Young closed up as i could never find them ?

I wouldn't personally have bought a car from there but I only had RS2s so there were plenty nearby. The problem with Rs1800s ( as you are no doubt aware ) was that they were few and far between even 25 years back so limited places to buy from. My friend was very keen to get one after a few other RS' and MY's was one of the few places they came up for sale

I certainly do - I'm in the Midlands ETA - I never had an X-pack but I had the Bjorn Waldegaard Series X adverts on the garage wall

Looked into travel options - google RMS St Helena. its the mail ship. it takes 14 days sailing to get there and stops off here and there along the way. Ends up in Cape Town. Marco, my lad here at work says they're cheap enough, hundreds for a car, if that.
I always remember the Ripspeed adverts in CCC in the 1980's (and in Car magazine too). They sold 'X-pack' bodykits for most of the Fords, the one that stood out was the one for the Mk2 Escort as it was 'affectionately known as the Minder Escort due to its fleeting appearance at the start ot the programme'.
If you see the opening credits, there's a Mk2 Harrier with X Pack arches fitted.

Wasn't it a company called Fibresports that made the X pack kits for Ford ?, the mk111 3.0S with full X pack, triple webers etc was something I always fancied back then, still do.If you see the opening credits, there's a Mk2 Harrier with X Pack arches fitted.
