I wish the EU would just f*ck off!
Well you will know how to vote in the referendum on the EU "In or Out"Now, this feel like someone trying to justify their 'job' by proposing something that's, again, completely un-applicable and verifiable in the real world. How many regulations will coppers in the EU will have to apply once they're done? They have something else to do to be honest.
I can't see an Italian policeman fining a Ferrari or Lambo for the noise it produces imagine the riots!

another reason to Vote NO .... and good riddance to them.
The majority of people won't be simply voting NO. And I suspect over the next five years we'll all learn exactly how the UK benefits from being part of the EU, and how much exactly in monetary terms we'll lose if we decide to 'leave'. I also suspect that during this time our relationship with the EU will change and we'll start getting 'our own way' more often. This, coupled with international companies (hasn't a UK car manufacturer already said they'd leave if we weren't part of the EU?) voicing their objections and I seriously doubt we'll be seeing the likes of Nigel 'one trick pony' Farage winning by a landslide.
Finally, we're not Switzerland, Norway or ruddy Liechtenstein. We're an island. And as much as I'd like to think we could be like Iceland, who are bouncing back in spectacular fashion, I doubt we share much with our island neighbor. Britain is blighted with a corrupt banking 'industry' that simply doesn't work. Icelanders recognize this and are making changes to regain control of their economy. If they ever join the EU it will be on very strict terms. Which is what we should have too. God, I'm actually agreeing with Cameron.

I have purchased my car with my money so I will fit a big exhaust to it if I choose to do so.
Read the article - not just you but a lot of others in the thread who seem to think this will affect cars already produced / aftermarket changes. It does not. It only changes the ISO test manufacturers must complete to get type approval for their cars, and will never be performed on anything after it leaves the forecourt.Though the bloody article title seems to suggest it affects all cars on the road, just to be a bit inflammatory..
If TVR were still around, their answer wound be "We didn't get the memo!", unfortunately all other car manufactures are all about profit and political correctness now, so they'll all fold and follow the new rules.
But joking aside, how do politicians at the EU have time to discuss the noise level of cars when there's more important problems to solves such as...oh I don't know, maybe poverty, homelessness, crime, the recession, drought, famine.....etc.etc.etc....
This sort of new legislation just adds to the proof that politicians don't live in the real world like the rest of us, they're more worried about a few seconds off possible noise disturbing them in their secluded detached country home as a slightly noisy car goes past!

Some very angry vocal responses. Mostly it seems because the proposals come from the EU rather than Westminster.
I'd be interested in seeing a list of current model cars that would fail this new regulation, is it a couple of AMG Blacks and a Caterham or everything louder than a Micra? Without knowing it's hard to know if we should be saying "pfft whatever Barry Brussels" or reaching for the pitch forks - as some clever folks have pointed out Db is a measurement that's easy to 'visualise'.
After all, it doesn't affect aftermarket pipes, or older cars so it's unlikely to really upset real motoring enthusiasts.
Personally it doesn't bother me, I've been in and owned a couple of louder cars, the makers seem to go to great lengths to insolate the cabin from the exhaust anyway, if they want you to enjoy more engine noise, reduce the sound deadening from the cabin.

got bored of reading all the anti eu expletives, but why dont the manufacturers fit a fuse which can be removed just like Aston do ?
I think they already do, but they just call it a 'sport button' or such like.Joking aside, if we ignore the amount of noise that comes from wind/tyres and just concentrate on exhausts, manufaturers do already use buttons not meet the regs, don't they? The car, as it comes, meets neccasery regulations, but if the owner chooses to change settings then that's their choice.
Isn't this the same reason that most padde shifts default to auto as standard? If they defaulted to manual/sport like we would prefer then they wouldn't meet the emissions regs?
I run a 24 yr old V8 car which is standard and measures 114db [lovely V8 rumble] not a noise i wont mention the car incase they target it as usual, they are just ar***oles.
EU and goverment they just get on my goat at the moment trying to screw you for every penny.
They should make the roads better to start with, up here some of them are a disgrace with holes, patches and not smooth at all and they wonder why we buy slightly heavier tread on our tyres making them a bit more noisier.
And now some idiot is talking about bringing the motorway speed down to 40 mph how thick can you get some cars and lorries will not be able to sit in top gear at that speed causing more polution and noise that there trying to reduce.
What chance do we have with these muppets.

Well loud engines may well be bad for your lugholes, but I'd swear any medical research would find that the right engine noise enhances the wellbeing - the soul - of any true petrolhead.
A proper, bassy V8, en-masse - like the old RV8 TVR Tscuans at the old Silverstone Copse first corner, or standing by the wall as NASCARs whistle past at 200+ - will wiggle your innerds and wrinkle your mouth up at the corners like nothing else.
But Brussels don't give a st about motoring enthusiasts or their wellbeing.A proper, bassy V8, en-masse - like the old RV8 TVR Tscuans at the old Silverstone Copse first corner, or standing by the wall as NASCARs whistle past at 200+ - will wiggle your innerds and wrinkle your mouth up at the corners like nothing else.
It'll be a sad day when V8 noise is totally muted and/or removed from the planet completely.
SLRs/AMG blacks - muted or banned
Standard BMW 540i - Acceptable, just.
This legislation won't touch the rude boys who zip up and down my road on unsilenced mopeds, because they're not insured, taxed or anything else so the law can't touch them, and won't touch them. (for fear of inflaming the community) Far better to pick on law-abiding car enthusiasts as usual.
I just get annoyed that there are people in Brussels , paid for by taxpayers, with the job of looking into this stuff. They write consultation documents, white papers, hold meetings, take a pension, claim expenses, and for no practical benefit to anybody. If they were all abducted by aliens, the taxpayers in the EU would never notice. No-one would care.
Meanwhile, other more pressing matters such as crime, education, health, migration etc.. remain stubbornly resistant to efforts to improve things.
I can't believe money is wasted on people who think up this stuff. I want to meet one of them and get them to justify their job to me. I'd love to hear it..
