It's tricky, the thought of £50k for a Vauxhall will still be too much to bare when less than seven years ago Monaros were sub-£30k IIRC?

That said if it was my money and I was buying new I don't think I'd look back biggrin I am very glad that cars like this are still on the market. cloud9

Having just spent a few days with the smaller engined brother (Holden Commodore SV6), I can confirm that in any guise its not going to be worth £50k!!

The interior is definetly a mixture of cheap plastics and the stereo was a touch scrren affair which was potentially lethal in the amount of interaction required to perform simple tasks (although the e60 set up isnt exactly easy either)

Also I dont know if the auto box will be like the SV6 but it hunted up and down gears when accelerating up hill and if you demanded a quick blast of power it literally paused for what seemed like an huge intake of breath and then shot the needle straight to the red line - bizarre!

Anyway - lets hope its streets ahead of its little brother..

That back end is hideous, looks like the previous Vectra estate crossed with the Mazda CX7 rear lights.

I do like the saloon though.

I love this sort of thing but that is a bonkers price for car which no doubt is a million miles away from a Mercedes or BMW in quality.

I quite like it, I'm not a fan of the bonnet though.

Vauxhall need to retire that number plate imo, it's donned a lot of their cars for what seems like an eternity.

This would be so good circa 41/42k and would sell in sufficient numbers to depriciate nicely for a great used buy in 4 years but at 50k I think they''ll be so rare as to dodge the cliff like depriciation I'd like to see.

Fair play to Vauxhall imo but it'll take a brave buyer at that price. Would suit my needs so well, load lugger, low annual miles, mix of short loaded drives, occasional exuberance and one in the eye for badge snobs, yes I like it.

Admittedly, both the Mercs are a touch quicker and will also be far better-built
eh?
I've owned a Monaro, nearly bought a VXR8, I really like those cars... but there's really no comparison between those and the C or E class, totally different league. At £36k (I know many sold for a LOT less) the VXR8 made sense but at £50k it's just outclassed, especially with the amazing lease deals available on AMG Mercs at the moment.
If you wanted to tune it you'd just buy a 1st gen for £15k wouldn't you?

Firstly I'd like to admit that barring a pink ticket win of a six figure nature I am not likely to be in the market for anything that costs over 40K unless it has a garden and double garage.
However, from my experience I don't think I would be going anywhere near a Vauxhall garage.
Now, before some of you start loading your badge snob rifles and getting me in your sights, I have nothing against any griffinous vehicles. I do however think that Vauxhall dealerships are probably a worse places to go than the local refuse amenity site. ,
I think they must get their staff from Ppi call centres.
I 'tried' to buy an Astra Gtc last year, as Im opting out of company car scheme, but was so put off by the process and the people, I just couldn't bring myself to give them my hard earned cash.

Love it. Hope enough people take the plunge so we can all pick one up second-hand in five years!

Dont think this was the best choice of colour for VX Tourer launch, could also be the UK sunlight (lack off) aswell, does look a bit like an 80's astra / cavalier colour,

Great car though, just a shame the Aus Exch rate has made it go too close to £50k but at least you wont have to top up another £15k of options like uou have to on an Audi etc.

Not sure why so much negativity, may be just jealousy as its not on the company rep car list

you cant beat a proper real V8 RWD Manual muscle car driving

£50k for a Vauxhall seems a bit much, even if it has got a large engine. Who's going to buy it?

I want that.

I reckon a V6 diesel or V8 diesel would also sit well below the VXR version.

GM should bring holden here as an upmarket Vauxhall marque and slot decent 6 and 8 cylinder engines in these
I cant imagine big demand for smaller engined versions. Holden don't make a diesel engine at the moment and I doubt they have ready funds to develop one. THe commodore sells well down in Aus and NZ (and now the US where it is exported) due to the fact fuel here is 1pound per litre (if that). Diesels are also taxed quite heavily in NZ.

From the little I know about the UK market, a large petrol sedan with a cheap interior and a nothing badge would hardly be a big seller. Think Chrysler 300c but without a diesel.

Those who realise its an HSV wearing a griffin badge.

Magnetic Ride control, launch control, Bi-modal exhaust, the list of likes goes on and on.

This should be at Brands Hatch BTCC on Sunday for closer inspection.

Hummm, £50k is on the expensive side and they will lose money. But, I like to see Vauxhall sticking it out there in the face of others. Good on 'em!
Ford,? tumbleweed Still trying to convince people that a 5 door hot hatch is the way to go rofl Hot hatches don't have 5 doors! But that's another story. :snooze: sorry.

Yes, its a Holden / HSV wearing simply a VX badge, it only has marketing ans warranty link with VX and not much else but realise "badge snobs" will have a problem.

a chap recently bought a VXR8 to replace an Aston Martin V8 Vantage that was taken back by dealer due to so many faults / problems, but is pleased as punch with VXR8, loves the car and has £30k back in the bank aswell, so badge / image isnt everything.

People who want a rugged estate car with a hoofing great V8 in it. If they want to avoid badge snobbery they could just swap the VX badges for Holden ones, and that wouldn't really be dishonest as the car is an Aussie at heart.
