The 500 quid one's overpriced? Surely if these wheels are genuine they are both that easily?
It's only a starting bid.

Needs transport to collect ... Shot motor, headlining and rot ... How much do you want a set of those wheels?
I was "man mathing" it.... working on the assumption the 500 bid wins it. I would quite like the wheels though smile

An early w124 is the ideal starter barge - cheap to insure, nice enough to drive, and pretty simple and cheap to fix.
I agree.

Thing is I have certain requirements for barging which include leather, aircon and at least 6cyl. Not impossible to find on a W124, but certainly a lot fewer and farther between than E38/9s meeting such criteria.

126 then. Plenty of 300's about if the 6 pot is a must.

The w124s are out there with leather, ac and 6 cylinders - I wouldn't want one without those three.

The e38/39 are plentiful but insurance, reliability and parts prices are nowhere near as good as a w124 in my experience. The 39 in particular seems to need rebuilding when it gets over 100k in a way the w124 doesn't (though in many ways a good 39 is a much better car).

My personal recommendation a 540i Touring

Bit pricey, but the prospect of 34mpg equivalent.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-540i-M-SPORT-TOURING...

That is lovely. Very stiff pricing though, it's going to have to have immaculate history and plenty of evidence of bits being replaced to make that - mileage is right for needing a suspension refresh if its not had it.

Edit: Two buckled wheels, needs a tyre, cracked chin spoiler... Yeah it's overpriced.

That 540 is horrible. Replica alloys plus a fake M badge; no thanks.

Will I be disappoint with an early 230CE with cloth and ambers? It has none of the desirable trio of air, leather and 6 cyl, but I am still tempted......

Depends on what your expectations are. 0-60 in about 11 seconds, so it will feel slow compared to your Impreza and Z3.

Nothing wrong with small engine and cloth seats!

If you're looking for something more archaic with cloth seats, rust, questionable colour co-ordination and a three legged starfish on the bonnet; you're reading the right thread. wink

2 owner car with low miles and apparently well looked after... however horrid colour and 'leather combo' which looks like 90s cloth to me. I don't know how it's priced but i'd say it's not the cheapest around, as you'd expect, but i reckon lack of demand means you could really put a low bid in and you might be surprised. Someone that could see past the colour scheme might be laughing.
