RE: Impreza 22B STI: Time For Coffee?

These cars make for so nostalgic for a period in my life when I hankered after and could afford many of the everyman cars that were on sale. Now its all over-priced Bmws and Audis...Also from when EVO started and really helped embellish the SUBARISHI cult that was so popular from about 1997 to 2000. Great cars, so sad that we may not see their like again...Is it a co-incidence that EVO went off the boil at about the same time Subaru and Mitsubishi did?

I've been lusting after a classic Subaru for far too long now. The 22B is way way out of my reach so I'll have to keep eyeing up adverts for V5 Type R's. Its a pity that the cheaper UK turbo's and grey imports ended up in the hands of chavs. I've seen far too many of them being modified badly and driven around by idiots.

Something like this would go down a right treat.

Top rung of the Impreza ladder. Can imagine I'll ever have one, which is a bit gutting. My brother had a P1 for about 2 weeks and said that it was so fun he only got about 11mpg with it just due the right pedal giving such a shove in the back... he sold it to a mate for £2k more than he paid for it as well. Cheeky sod eh?

IM Group asked for advise and Jesus said tweed was necessary as well as button saying "Bright" on the dashboard (WTF that did I never worked out...)

That's missing the point though and you could make the same point about any iconic car - there will always be something superior on another car. Desirability doesn't just depend on facts and figures, BHP and 0-60 times. Character and history comes into it as well and the scooby has those in spades.

That's fine and I partly accept your point, but I don't drive history. And character doesn't always make for a great car. Don't get me wrong, I like Imprezas but I can't accept that this car is £20,000+ better than a second hand STI.

I'm sure it's not but no other impreza will hold it's value like this one (except maybe an ra-r). Even the rb320 and Litchfirld type 25 can't match the residuals.

A clean, unmolested 22b could be a very wise buy just now.

In Aberdeen by any chance? There was a young lad at uni with me (97-01) who had one.

Nope! The DCCD is one if the main reasons behind my Type R desires. I went out as a passenger in a relatives V5 (funnily enough also in grey) and my word that thing was a nutter. Being able to control the diff allowed for some rather fun moments on a quiet road. I need to make sure I have one within a years time.

Small point - when the 22B and M3 CSL came out, both were heavily criticised for their rock hard ride that made them near torture on normal roads.
Now both seem to be hailed as all time classics - shows how the fashion for silly alloys and rock hard suspension has changed perceptions.

Absolutely love the look of these! That and the rarity makes it appealing for me, irrespective of it being the best steer or not.

There are 4 of them on Car Sensor right now, ranging from £20k to £28k (before import costs).

Easier to retrofit a DCCD box to a p1 than ABS to a type r! I think the p1 is more likely to appreciate long-term too.

Id be looking at a six speed into a P1 too, I think. You can probably retain the P1s ABS too.

Yep he also had one of those ultra rare AC Schnitzer e36 BMW coupes.
