RE: Why our Elise went into limp mode

don't understand what all this fuss is about ??
1 person has an issue on a track day, of all places, due to a safety feature aimed to save lives on every car that has it.
So if I get most comments, Lotus should remove this feature, that as far as I see affected 1 person doing stuff on the track, and risk the lives of others in order to do so !?!?
1 persons slight loss of enjoyment has to go way below saving lives !!
pathetic

whatever the reason - I don't want it!! It is on my VW T5 transporter as well (2.5TDi 2006) and is a right pain. After parking up for extended periods, the disks gather surface rust. On my T4, this could be cleaned by gently left foot braking (on a clear road etc etc) while keeping the throttle going with the right foot. Voila, brakes restored to full efficiency within 100m. Not any more. Likewise for gently bedding in new pads and disks. I can just about accept it on my van and mainstream cars but not on sports cars please!!
Citroen have a similar (or same?) system which I have discovered through working at a dealership.... When a used car sits on the forecourt for a while and accumulates rust on the brake discs I left foot brake to clear the rust off whilst I'm driving along. Some cars get all flustered and confused as to what is actually happening - very annoying!

Is this just a long-winded way of saying"throttle by wire is actually a bit st"?
No, it's a long-winded way of saying that it allows a feature which is a a bit st for the tiny proportion of buyers who would ever notice. The fact that throttle by wire is just generally st, is a completely unrelated point.
ETA: As people have said, it does sound like there's simply a bug in this ECU, though. There's no way it should put the engine into limp mode if you overlap brake and throttle in the wrong way. I wonder if Toyota or Lotus wrote the code; I can quite imagine that no-one would ever notice it in a Toyota. I'm guessing that the problem will mysteriously vanish after a service, at some point.

The Evora, Elise 1.6/S and Exige V6 use the Lotus T6e ECU, so I'd guess its their own.Edited by kambites on Tuesday 15th April 17:18
So please, buy our sportscar, but don't bother using it in the way it should be, and the way you had in mind BEFORE you forked out all the money.
Ummm, and the largish portion of the American population (which you in Britain are rivalling, for average weight these days, I might add - has to do with food supplies, but I digress) is never going to be the Lotus buyer. Only hardcore maniacs do that sort of thing over here.

Which of course, wont be going anywhere because electrical cable is cheaper than throttle cable.

It should not throw up a spanner on the dash eh Lotus?
90% of cars have done this for years, none I know of throw a spanner in the works no matter how long you persist with trying it.
To overide it, maintain brake pressure & a reapply throttle somewhat difficult to master in addition to LFB'ing
