2 good spots.I love the "open cup" car - I wasn't aware of that, but £40k seems like a bargain for that.

Boom! Love that. The days when a performance saloon spec sheet would raise eyebrows with 175bhp. 25 years later, double that is passé.In terms of running it, I wonder how much of that car is NLA off the shelf and how many Renault mechanics have ever seen one.

Now a blue Ph1.....
I enjoyed my ownership of a metallic grey Phase 1. Full leather 'ergonomic pack' interior dontchaknow. Now a blue Ph1.....
I suspect H508HLF has long since disappeared from the roads.
Chap decided to keep it.
I think I'll give him another nudge!
Anyone with a phase 1 in blue pls shout
The engine, for starters. US cars got the S38B35, UK cars the M88/3. US version is down on power compared to UK (think catalyst and other nonsense) and has some other design changes.
Otherwise, from memory they're pretty similar. Headlights are different, bumpers are probably different (can't remember).

Oh. So they are slower and heavier than the Euro cars. As are the E36 M3's, as are the 850csi's etc.Otherwise, from memory they're pretty similar. Headlights are different, bumpers are probably different (can't remember).
Have an eye on one but am now far less tempted knowing they have different engines and given they are slightly challenging to look at, especially in Red.
I'd say (if it's convenient to) go drive one - the Euro cars aren't exactly ballistic in the context of modern cars, so a missing 25bhp might not matter that much. And there's always the option to stick a shorter diff in for a bit more poke.
Can't help you on the looks though - all E24s are a bit ungainly to my eyes

S38B35 is down 30bhp on the M88/3 due to lower compression to meet emissions but does have a double row timing chain. Most US E24's of that era had the 'diving board' front and rear bumpers to meet safety requirements but the Highline or chrome bumpers can be retro-fitted.
Weirdly some US cars have a better interior spec with rear air-con common and component speakers in front as well as the rear.

The one I am looking at is quite tempting as it is a dry climate car with apparently no rust, shiny paint and ice cold air con.
It also has low mileage but what is slightly at odds is the ad states an original US car, but it appears to have the highline spec euro bumpers with subtle side repeaters included and allegedly a 282hp engine.
I'm doing some more digging and will see what happens.

It also seems that BMW toyed with an E32 V16, which to me, is brand new information.

Project Goldfish; a one-off E32 7.0 V16 project with a manual gearbox and an utterly compromised cooling system. As seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ruNyGf9f_MM#t=208
