Personally, I'd have gone back the same day or the next without a second thought. Granted you may have a more hectic life than mine but still, that's quite a while you have forgotten for.At least you're now on the case.

Genuine question, do you only have one card? I always have a debit and credit card on me. If one doesnt work, the other is bound to.
I usually do but the whole trip was one of unforeseen events, balls ups and flying by the seat of my pants. I slept in a car park, got a ticket on the way back and had to go back the next week to do the job properly. Mostly my fault but Shell didn't exactly help.

Hey, it happens. Well once in almost 20 years of driving to me actually. Honest mistake and I'll never forget the realisation while stood in a long queue that my wallet was in the jacket pocket I'd left at home as it was a warm evening. I was like a jabbering idiot apologising when I got to the till.

Still, drove straight back home, retrieved said wallet and paid within 30 mins, so no big deal really in the grand scheme of things.

"forgetting" for three weeks is taking the piss though, so you kinda deserve to be hit with some admin fees for that I'd say.

was in Aberdeen last year and needed petrol to get back to Glasgow. For whatever reason my card wasn't working and I asked in an Shell garage if I could take fuel and have someone phone up to pay and they said they couldn't take payments over the phone.

I thought at the time it was bks (and still do) but they were adamant.
Shell will take payments over the phone, as it happened to me last week. I put £630 into the truck but the fuel card PIN was wrong, so with no other means of paying, called the boss who gave his details over the phone and put it onto his credit card.

Yes, but that's Shell's fuel cards, which have their own system that is distinct from ordinary bank cards.

Happened to me some years back.

Left Berkshire on a business trip, took mobile, laptop and all the usual crap but not wallet!

Got to the services on the M5 near Brum and ordered a coffee in Costa - b****r, not even enough change for a coffee so had to leave it behind.

Was on my way to Bradford so thank f**k the tank was full (diesel E46 so 600+ miles on a tank).

Bought a cheap bottle of water in a corner shop once I got off the motorway!

But no way would I ever forget despite my advancing years.

So OP, go and pay and hand in your PH membership on the way out!shoot

What exactly is this form that they want you to fill in at the Police station?

That 'Boss' website looks to be the typical bailiff related guff - Crap website with, vague information and images that are designed to look like something you'd see directly from the Police, but aren't.

I seem to remember that it is a pain to collect payment of drive offs via court and most forces have bigger fish to fry than an odd tank of unleaded so my bet is that they are just scaring you into paying (my hunch is that you'd probably get away with it if you so desired...)

Give them a call and tell them the station refused direct. Make sure you get a receipt, and at this point make sure you only pay for the fuel that you should have paid, and not whatever 'Boss' try to fleece you for a DVLA keeper's check and a couple of letters

About 6 months ago i filled up the car at bp, was about to draw some money from the cash machine first and noticed my card was not in my wallet, i never placed it back in my wallet after ordering something online earlier that day.
I sheepishly said i cant pay as i forgot my card, i only live 5 mins away so she asked if i could leave something valuble whilst i went off to get my card. Ended up leaving my phone which i was a it sketchy about but then again i was leaving with a full tank of diesel.
Returned 5 mins later and paid. Now i always make sure there is either cash in my wallet or my card before fueling as i felt like a right scrounger lol

Yes, I still remember my experience - couldn't even pay for a latte! Feeling that stupid isn't something anyone sensible forgets that soon.

Since then I leave a £20 note secreted in the car!

Not paid yet, I went there earlier with a £10 note, but the guy said come back tomorrow when the garage manager is around so he can provide me with a receipt and sort out the paperwork, his words...

bks to you all, you can forget, I forgot, there was no embarrassment as it wasn't busy!

Genuine mistake is genuine, calm down too guys, you're all acting like excited animals with your silly PH "Insert stupid phrase about the demise of the forum" lines...

I once did do exactly this and went back a couple of days later. It was a real mistake.

I left my phone number and address and they rang a couple of days later and suggested they involve the police. This will never happen again due to the embarrassment I felt. I felt ashamed so the moment they phoned I raced over and paid.

I can see that it was a genuine mistake OP, but your second mistake was to post here and not to rush over and pay it when you were reminded!

I once did the same at a (then) shady garage in Plymouth about 10 years ago.

They made me give them my Nokia phone as collateral until I paid them the next day. My phone had no pin code at the time and when I got it back I discovered someone had spent £25 of phone credit ringing people. They had deleted their call history (and mine) from the phone so I had no proof, but back then aged 17/18 I had no contract so could not prove it ha ha.

They say me coming!

I don't think anyone is questioning the initial oversight - these things can happen.

It's more the three weeks bit. Maybe you aren't dishonest and you're just genuinely not much use at dealing with daily life, who knows - most people don't like knowing they fked up and owe money which is why they don't manage to "forget" for almost a month, and that's the point most people are struggling with here.

So, "reminder" lest you forget again - go pay your debt today and just get it sorted out smile

Utterly retarded. Instead of posting and pontificating about what might happen just go to the garage and pay up.
lots of people seem to confuse pontificate and procrastinate.
