What impact will this have on the "official" emissions, is really want everyone wants to know!!!
I wonder what Mountune will do for the Focus RS, while being backed with warranty!

Mountune undoubtedly do good packages, designed in conjunction with Ford but they seem expensive and dont offer massive gains, Focus ST goes from 250 bhp to 275 bhp for £1200 or £2800 to got to 300 bhp, a Bluefin from Superchips gets pretty much 300 bhp and costs £399. Am sure the Mountune way is preferable as its more than just a remap but its also nearly two and a half grand dearer.I wonder what Mountune will do for the Focus RS, while being backed with warranty!

I cant imagine Mountune will be adding 154 bhp to the Focus RS like Revoc have done to the Golf, I reckon another 70 or so tops, will need to look to the other, non Ford affiliated tuners for the bigger numbers but with another 300cc and a lot of development on the Mustang Ecoboost 2.3 I expect 450 - 500 bhp Focus RS's out there not very long after they go on sale.
Plus, there were an awful lot of Evos with way, way more than 450 bhp, years ago, sky is the limit, just depends how much you want to spend, I suspect the normal remap would be plenty for most owners, a 375 bhp Golf, same power as a Lotus Carlton now sounds a bit passe, no, its still mental.

Who cares, as long as it passes the MOT? What bothers me is all the fast cars around at the moment that can be made ridiculously fast cheaply, and will be in the hands of morons a few years down the line.

What makes you say that? I've got a 350bhp Impreza Classic that has zero issues and I've also been in 450 cars that are very driveable. A lot I guess depends on the suspension and the way the power is delivered as there are many routes for this. The Golf is also much heavier than a Impreza Classic which I'd imagine helps.My car is a converted twin scroll (VF37) that gets going early and has a wide but very progressive power band. It's very easy to drive and will only bite if its driven without any consideration for what it can do.
However going out in a rotated GT35 can be a somewhat wild experience! 550+ Impreza classics are a handful.

I've been in a quite a few modified Evos/Subarus and from my experience the ones running circa 450bhp+ always felt a bit laggy and 'modified'. Blisteringly fast on boost, but it usually came on in the mid to high rev range and if you were in the wrong gear exiting a bend you really knew about it. Not to mention the clutches on those things. It once took me 5 attempts to move an Evo off the car park. Possibly down to my crap skills but 'driveable' they certainly were not.
If the DSG box and clutches copes with 450bhp smoothly and reliably then I'm seriously impressed. How over-engineered are these cars to begin with?
I've got to say and although I've got no experience of the R apart from being in a few, I'd place a decent bet on them going wrong fairly often at 450bhp. I say this from experience of high power 2.0 turbo cars. When cars increase power so dramatically, the life of many parts will be drastically shortened (usually) and when owners with little mechanical sympathy then drive them hard the chances of them being reliable are pretty small.
I'd also suggest the Golf will also feel very modified at 450bhp and suffer similar off boost lazyness.

Well, not NEW new... stock VW parts... a turbo four is never going to make a driver's car.The DSG is fragile enough on lowlier Golfs, VW has had no end of trouble with them. 400+hp through one? No thanks!

They already are, if the local A45/Golf R crowd are anything to go by. Launch control off traffic lights outside the office, no worries. Totally ignoring the 15mph limit so you can try to crack 60 between the speedbumps, brilliant... csd19 said:

Not like this is a new thing though - look at the amount of idiots driving around in Evos and Imprezas, and probably fast Fords before that. I was a passenger in my friends Golf R yesterday doing 40mph on a 40mph road with an Evo X two inches from the rear bumper. There were numerous opportunities for it to pass us, but they were basically waiting for us to take off, which we didn't rise to.
Very few idiots in rice rockets around here. Though there's a very loud bugeye round the corner. I imagine a barried up Golf is tempting prey to a genuine performance car like an Evo.andrewparker said:

Off boost lazyness is quite a nice thing to have in a quick car...allows you to drive it without crapping yourself all the time and then if you take the time to move that stick thing poking out of the floor you to play when you want to. What element reflects badly on Land Rover Td4 drivers? OK, it's a sweeping generalisation, but there can't be too many performance cars whose image hasn't been sullied to some extent by some of the people who choose to drive them.
