FFS just reject the car so that I can buy it tomorrow for £20k less than you paid, drive it straight to the nearest Estonian Carwash for a splash and dash and some cheap wax, following which I will thrash it back the farm where I live, though inch thick mud, stones, gravel and cow st, before leaving it overnight in the rain, so I can look at it through the window!!!

cant its dirty smile ill take some tonight, there is actually a rubbing mark where it looks like they have stretched the petrol hose over the back end, under good light there a swirls and normal you can see scratches

And to all the posters on this I love all cars and never criticise anyone's choice of car, horses for course etc, please dont 'troll' the forum and ruin this as people will be scared to post on here in fear of reprise because they choose a car that already comes with paint as standard and pay £3500 on top!
Just for the record - and this may have got lost in other posters' angry attempts to defend you - I didn't 'criticise' your car choice, I just questioned it, as £70k is a lot of money and would buy some properly exotic metal for someone who is passionate about cars. Sadly some people - and this seems to be a modern malaise - see any questioning as 'trolling' or abuse. It was meant as neither.

Yep, need close-up pics of the issues.

I do find it strange that having been a detailer that you didn't tell them not to prep the car before you picked it up. I'm not, and never have been a detailer & even I know new cars just get a quick wash that's no better than taking it to the local scratch n' shine.

I'd be buggered if I'd let some saturday monkey loose with a gritty sponge on my £70K car with a £3.5K paintjob!

I was reading a new Mustang owners thread - he specifically requested the dealers valeters stay the hell away from his brand new car before he collected it. Good move.

OP if it was you that owned that white VXR (Nurburgring special?) I think your high standards may be too high for BMW, who have one of the worst reputations for paint finish among the 'premium' brands.

Would a discount suffice or would you reject the car if BMW come back with the two fingers to your complaint?

OP - I expect those swirl marks were created when they did the PDI. Usually standards are probably not very high on new car preparation. Most people will see a nice shiny car and be happy with it. If you are very particular about your paintwork, get them to try and rectify the swirl marks first, if they are indeed quite bad. I suspect it is probably not easy to catch on camera, given the colour, clearly shows up worse on darker colours.

Good luck, nice car!

Do enlighten us as to what car you own.
Not sure why that is important
It's vitally important to him. He needs to place you (hopefully lower than him) on the social ladder based on what car you drive. Currently, rather like the Two Ronnies sketch, he looks up to the OP and down on everyone else.

He isn't, it was me that asked if he was but it was more as a joke, albeit in bad taste. hehe

I still laugh thinking of the amount of time he spent fretting and complaining to the dealership over 1 micron of paint or whatever it was...that and him detailing his hoover of course biggrin

he said above, can't until tonight.

TBH, I'd be p1ssed off too if the car is as bad as described. even if it was a 20k car, let alone 70k.

maybe there are lots of people with low standards out there but I feel for the OP having probably saved all his working life for this spec car only to be let down by the dealers for the condition it arrived in. its irrelevant whether the dealer has better / lower standards than yours. the car should be in perfect condition. its brand new at the end of the day.

I'm not questioning its ability as a great all-rounder, but if cars are apparently your passion I struggle to see an M4 as a 'passion' choice. Without even thinking about it I could split your £70k budget between an early Audi R8 (manual) for some proper 'passion' and a 63-plate 435d for rapid 'comunting' purposes.

I accept that it's 'each to their own' but I struggle to understand spending this amount on a car that really isn't much more 'special' than a 435d.
errummmm. I was with you right up to the point where you call an audi a proper passion choice after berating the op for choosing a BMW hehe

At least pick a gallardo as you can have the R8 engine but without the shopping trolley exterior!
I don't know what was worse, his comment or your reply.

You might as well be telling the OP that he should have bought a blue car because they are much more special, in other words it's entirely subjective and as such your opinion on whether his car is special or not is irrellevant.

And for context, why a real PDI should actually take 3 months using 51 coats of a £10k wax that comes in a swarovski crystal box laugh

The despicable bds! Well, that's DEFINITELY grounds for the car to be rejected - in fact, it should be crushed fifthwith to avoid it being fobbed off onto anybody else! I'm not sure that "shocking" in your thread title is strong enough...

Ah, missed that... scrolled through looking for pics...

I agree unacceptable if bad but would 99.99% of people notice them? as that's the way I feel this is going to end up. As for a £1800 valet, Seriously ?
