Jerk in a Merc (Reg T9 TSK) has a dispute with cyclist

Surely the cyclist could have braked and tucked back in?
Possibly but why did it need to be an issue? Read Rawwr's quote above - pretty much sums it up. Just let the cyclist complete his overtake and there is no problem. Life is to short. It was basically an overtake block, and if this was a video of a car driver having his overtake blocked in the same way as the cyclist was then the reaction on this thread would be different. I've got a foot in both camps here; I drive 20,000 miles a year, and cycle around 6000. I guess that makes me a motorist first, and a cyclist second?
I'm not sure I would have gone for the overtake, purely because I can't see what there was to really gain from it. However, the berk in the Merc deliberately put the cyclist in a dangerous situation. He should have backed off, and allowed him to pass. The consequences of his actions could've been much worse.
I'm starting to get annoyed by the continual rise of helmet cam use, and riders being deliberately antagonistic due to wearing one. In my 41 years, I have never come back from a ride wishing I'd been wearing a camera, yet some riders seem to constantly be uploading videos of situations that they probably would have backed off and avoided if they hadn't been wearing a camera. You also look a complete tt riding round with a camera attached to the top of your lid.
On the subject of speed limits (as mentioned on the previous page) Speed limits in the Uk do not apply to bicycles. How could they? There is no way of measuring their speed.

Good post. I too am a cyclist and motorist having just taken up cycling again recently. I will never ever wear a cam, there is zero need for it if you ride sensibly and when you do meet the occasional knob realise that you are vulnerable so it's best not to be in the right and dead, just let them get on with it and enjoy the rest of your ride!I'm not sure I would have gone for the overtake, purely because I can't see what there was to really gain from it. Yes because car drivers always try to overtake in a queue of nose to tail traffic doing 20mph through a park...
Completely irrelevant point. It was an overtake (though consensus is a poor one) that was blocked. Highway code is pretty clear on what to do when being overtaken - if need be then help facilitate the manouvere. And for the record, I've seen cars do worse overtakes than that before!

To the OP: you give cyclists a bad name, your a danger to yourself and other road users. I bet you have been longing to get some interesting footage for your headcam. Carry on like this your going to get yourself killed.
For the record, I commute 50miles per week on a bike.
Why dont people read whats written - it wasnt the OP For the record, I commute 50miles per week on a bike.
Why was the bike trying an overtake in thats situation? Why not just hold back in line like everyone else
And the continuing confrontation. red mist adrenalin pull over breathe.
The cyclist was breaking the 20mph limit that the traffic was adhering to (yes, that applies to cyclists too in the Royal Parks [I Googled it rather than pretending to actually know that like some people]).
The cyclist was 100% in the wrong - he was speeding and overtaking.
Yet some people are blaming the Merc driver?
Never go full retard even if you're a cyclist yourself

If you overtook traffic at 65 on an NSL and they sped up to block you I guess you'd be 100% at fault? Yet some people are blaming the Merc driver?

I would have let the cyclist go, speeding up to fill the gap is never a good idea. But the cyclist shouldn't have attempted it in the first place.scrubchub said:

You should read the rubbish driving caught on dashcam thread, as there's many cases on there of people having saved a fortune due to having proof of non fault.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
