There is quite a bit of talk on the net (denied by Alfa) that it has failed it's crash tests and is being delayed by a further six months

Of course this is PH and no doubt I will be burned at the altar of Driving Goodness for saying this, but I think Alfa have made a big mistake here.

People do not buy mid size saloons in the numbers they used to.

They should have spent their limited funds making a small SUV instead. Something to compete with a BMW X3 or Audi Q5. On a global basis, it would sell a lot more IMO.
Absolutely right.. but I think this was planned a fair while back. Still, the Fiat groups in general have been woefully inadequate in this area. Maserti too are very late jumping on that bandwagon

That's old rumours. Since then it have been scheduled to go into full production in March.

Despite the usual concerns, I bought a new facelift Giulietta‎ in July 2014, and guess what, nothing has dropped off it, no warning lights, no problems what so ever in 12+k miles.

On that basis, I'm up for a Guilia 3.0 diesel with 4WD and auto box (I doubt that will come in manual anyway).

As many say, will be nice to have an alterative to the existing choices. Would consider a Jag too (but still prefer the Alfa), but no 4WD option which is esential to me where I live.

Old rumours that are all over the car websites today and yesterday and comments being made at Geneva??

I want this car to succeed there have been far too many false starts and failed attempts by Alfa to produce a car to rival the Germans in recent times

Yes. It's old news but that specific comment is new.

Unless they completely screw it up, I'm not convinced the quality of the product is going to be what determines the success of the car anyway, at least in the UK. It'll be the dealers and the availability of cheap finance that make or break it.

Selling Alfas, certainly in London means sticking them In the corner of fiat dealers unfortunately. That's not gonna help

Complete agree on both counts, they need to open up some dedicated dealerships ASAP and they need to offer competitive rates. If the monthly figures are too far off what the German's are doing they'll struggle.

Given all that, I still think this will probably be one of the biggest sellers yet for Alfa as the buzz around it seems to be quite huge.

The 3 series needs some competition.

In my eyes Alfa positioned itself correctly with doing the classical saloon car before the SUV. Even if the segment is shrinking they stand a better chance fighting the 3 Germans headon than going in with the plethora of small SUVs.

But they would also need the product to do so. Sadly in some of the IRL pictures (posted on other sites) interior parts still look unfinished, despite the massive delay in the project.

Gives me the impression, that cash strapped FCA underdeveloped this.

Unfinished, underdeveloped ?

Strong words wenn judged only by looking at it behing a computer screen.

I saw it in Frankfurt and the interior of the Giulia looked great. Used the new inhouse (Magnetti Marelli) designed nav system as well, looked very good as well and simple to use. Although the functionality was not as extensive as the systems found in the Germans (could've also been down to the pre-production setup they used on the stand.)

The thing I'm less keen on is the exterior design of the Giulia.

Martin 480 Turbo said:
The C-Class interior is the Mini-Pagani, that the Giulia should have been.

Mini-Pagani ??

Nonsence, sat in the C class and it's a of those examples that looks can be very deceiving. It's has cheap components, the fake leather trim with the stiching on the dash for instance.

It's far from the interior that their trying to mimic. Its a scaled down version of the AMG Gt.

Hope Alfa can improve my impression when the first dealer demonstrators come out, otherwise KIA will take the bacon with their RWD Sedan, that will come along next year.

Don't judge things from behind your computerscreen.

If you want one in Leicester you'll have to make your way to a solitary desk tucked away in the corner of a Hyundai dealership. Compared to the palaces that sell BMW, Audi & Merc in the same city, the Giulia is beaten before the first road test (which incidentally will give it 6/10)
