I had 2 of them and loved them, so much better thant the Mercedes A class we tried.

As a town car it was great, fab quality interior and quick enough.

Given both your preferences (cheap, economical (compared to a Range Rover) and fun to drive), I'd probably recommend a Clio 172/182.

No, it is true. If I remember, Audi did revise the wiper somehow, try to cut down the movement.
