BMW spent a lot of money developing the rear suspension of the E36
Pity that didn't extend to the rear coil springs on the E46. My 72k mile M3 now on its fourth set - more like a service item!

Coil springs are a known weak point on the E36 and E46. My E46 had been through quite a few sets in the years before my ownership.

Great little cars - I had a moment in mine when I hit black ice on a country road and it went into a high speed weave covering both sides of the road for quite some way - it wasn't a car I wished to crash in and thankfully I didn't.

I'd buy that if it was closer.
Someone was obvioulsy closer as it has sold already!
I didn't think it would hang around long at that price!

Not my cup of tea, in fact I hate Nova's with their massively offset driving position and rusty rear arches... But someone might like it!

I know who owns that Nova.

Never seen it in the flesh but it's just round the corner from where I used to live.

I worked for a Vauxhall dealer in the mid 90's, they were always around. Hateful things!

To be fair though, a friend inherited a 1.2 Fling or Swing and tried to kill it. Flipping thing just wouldn't break laugh

My dad had a Nova 1.2 Merit for a few years. In fact it was the car he had when I first passed my test.

Not a great car.

Weapon of choice for youngsters in the mid 90s

I drove a 1.2 van round Wales delivering stuff - nowhere near as bad as the "eye-clawer-outers" would have you believe

One of these is soooo up my street, oddball, weird, rare, cool but with a hatred of French cars I'm not sure if the brave pills would be strong enough. If one pops up locally I might just have to go and a have look though. Flipping a coin on the decision after making my mind up its a good'en would probably still be wise though!

You're right and the Accord only lasted about 6 months before I got sick of the road noise and horrible seats.

I much prefered the BMWs for the relaxed effortless cruising but the ability to go fast when required. The Accord was great when you were on one but crap at all other times.
Eh? The seats (and engine) are the best things about an accord type r!

The "French Car" thing is bks by the way, not really any worse/better than any other cars out there (esp 2nd hand)

One of the reasons I looked was to check that that wasn't this £6K one:

Renault Avantime? A lovely motor. The French love a little panache!
France is a big country, so their manufacturers aim to make robust cars to drive long distances. The August holidays see a huge migration of people driving to the sun, a car like this'd be great on the autorout going south...

I know it's supposed to be a luxury coupe but the compromises with the Avantime would have been less if the rear seats came out or folded entirely flat.

I liked the 'verdict':

2080 mm wide inc. mirrors?

That lurid lime green one that featured on the barge thread looked great.

The seats looked great and I expected them to be brilliant but they weren't. Gave me backache after about 30 minutes.

The engine was both brilliant and mediocre. On Vtec it was a monster that offered far more performance than the power figures would suggest and it sounded awesome. Off Vtec it was just like any other 4 pot, only worse on fuel. The problem was that off vtec the car was just noisy. After a long day at work the drive home, in heavy 50 mph traffic, just wasn't nice. Excessive road noise and a lack of sound proofing resulting in engine drone in the cabin, not to mention a very stiff ride. Had I been 10 years younger it might not have bothered me as much. The other problem was on the motorway, at 70 mph the cabin noise was loud enough to drown out the conversation so I ended up doing 60 mph. Also with 4 up the performance was not good. I remeber a mate of mine who had an ITR used to wear ear plugs on a long run.

In short, when driven at full throttle like your hair was on fire it was brilliant and better than any other car I have ever owned. However at any other speed it wasn't a patch any the 3 BMWs I have had. The problem is that for 95% of the time you don't get to drive at full throttle.

I guess you have never been a mechanic in a general car garage hehe Every button & electrical gadget still works fine on my 25 year old Landcruiser, ask me the same about my wifes Renault Master, window switches don't work, wiper stalks are iffy, radio is dead, the used 10 times in its life hazard switch that's exploded in bits twice! hehe or the French bits on her Volvo V40 (a Renault Laguna in drag) or Her V70 with a French steering rack, or the French made switchgear on my VW Lupo's thats st

It's a VERY well deserved reputation!

However an Avantime I could possibly forgive for its quirks
