Since this seems to be the densest gathering of MB facial hair on t'interwebs.
Been looking at S211's for a while now, and have narrowed it down to an 05/06 edition of the 280 or 320 CDI flavour. Found this one at the top of thread budget with 150k on the clock. Seems to be in good nick with reported FMBSH. What should I be looking for in terms of preventative maintenance done, or wear and tear items due around this age/miles? Problem is that I'm 180 miles away from it. I have someone that can probably go and look at it for me, but he doesn't know MB's, so what questions should he ask?
So, did you have a look at this? Price drop now to 4350! What's wrong with it?Been looking at S211's for a while now, and have narrowed it down to an 05/06 edition of the 280 or 320 CDI flavour. I guess here is as good as anywhere to ask this little question. On the S60 I just bought 1) the front alloys are in a terrible state, kerb damage around most of the rim and lots of flaked off paint on the spokes. I take it this sort of thing is routine for a wheel refurb guy? How much should I expect to pay? £60-70 per wheel? 2) Aircon makes some odd gurgling, chirping noises when you first fire it up. I presume this is due to being a little low on R134a?
OK here you go:
Collected on Sunday in Hamburg:
On the road to Bruges, stuck in traffic:
Pit stop:
Horrendous rain around Antwerp!
Parked up next to an SL in Bruges:
On the Eurotunnel- just about fit!
Getting checked out in London- it's a good'un thankfully
Currently sharing workshop space with this work of art:
And that's it for now! Car is in London, I'm back in NI....

Strong price considering the mileage!

It's not here Woody...it 's their "Club" (and that's the most important word i.e "club") that is inhabited by self-satisfied but more importantly self-serving A-holes.
Oh no sorry to hear that. Don't take it out on the cars though Derin. Having said that if you are selling off "at any cost" do you still have that lovely white coupe? harrykul that looks lovely, you must be very proud indeed!

I see you're in the Midlands - I've used Sweeney & Sherlock in Birmingham to strip and powder coat 3 sets of alloys to date - get the tyres removed, and I paid £35 ea for 16" alloys and £40 ea for 17" 18 months ago, and I couldn't be happier with the finish. Two sets were eBay purchases which were as rough as anything, and they came up great. Harrykul - congratulations, it looks stunning, and the trip back sounds like the icing on the cake.

In general car clubs look a bit dull, isn't it all standing around in motorway service stations and muddy fields?
All this talk of nice S124s coming to the market is whetting my appetite for another.
I showed Graham's 300-24v to Mrs G yesterday evening, in the hope that she might say "ooh let's sell the 5 series and buy another old Merc". Sadly didn't happen.
The e61 is objectively a better car - not least with its isofix and parking beepers - but the 124 is just sooo much more characterful.
Nice Fezza, by the way!!

I'd very happily do a thread "Deal" if that would sweeten the idea? It very much needs to go to an enthusiast and i'd like to keep an eye on it.I showed Graham's 300-24v to Mrs G yesterday evening, in the hope that she might say "ooh let's sell the 5 series and buy another old Merc". All this talk of car clubs!
They are all, to any sane and reasonable person, dreadful. They act as vehicles of self publicity and promotion to the small number of people who run them, and can be frustrating, irritating and incomprehensible. But only if you let them.
By chance, my MB Club subscription reminder has landed on the doormat today, which I shall renew. I don't put the car club stickers on the windscreen any more and I don't like the whole standing around in a field thing. I have offered my views to the MB Club that I feel it's a very one-dimensional view of the world, but don't hold out for any improvement in terms of equality or diversity in the near future.
I do love the Mercedes classic magazine, and I believe this , and the discount in insurance on my 129 outweighs the annual subs.
Turning to W124's. I believe I have bought and sold my last 124. There is a diminishing pool of good cars around, but there are still many rusty, oily horrors on sale, trading exclusively on the reputation that at one stage they were at the pinnacle of automotive quality. The facelift cars took a real dive with quality.
Anyway, keep the faith Derin- don't go looking for a car club that's a panacea of all things to everyone. They're all as boring as hell.
