Bargeists. I'm interested in a 91 SL, but have just discovered it was originally registered in Hong Kong, and imported and registered in the UK in 2003.

Should this bother me? Anything in particular to look out for as a consequence? Hoping to view on Saturday, so early responses appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Wouldn't have thought so, other than the insurance potentially being a smidge more expensive. Having been in the UK for 10+ years all the tricky stuff will have long-since been sorted.

Never seen the interior, but the outside is utterly vomit-summoning. What a bloody awful thing, the original 500 was a great-looking car, then they got BINI syndrome and fked it up. frown
Isn't the MINI supposed to be a good laugh to drive?

It may be a big car, but if it was the size as the original it either wouldn't pass safety regs, or if it did it'd be so cramped nobody would buy it. The current mini is much better at what it's for in the current market.

By the way, I really don't like the original mini hehe
Ex GF had an '07 Mini Cooper and I used to enjoy stealing it once a week.
Maybe I'm fussy, but I don't like them much, the R56 is the only one I've spent any real time with though.

I always thought it was too heavy, had far too much grip, numb steering, awkward seats and a woefully unergonomic cabin.

Anyway, back to barges! I picked myself up a mini-barge this week, a £400 Alfa 156 2.4 JTD for hustling backwards and forwards to work. Very comfy, and with lovely seats.

Oooh interesting!

I'm on the lookout for a £500 snotter for winter duties (mostly coz it'll be cheaper than buying winter tyres for the 'Pina).

I want long MoT and a bit of tax, the ability to cruise comfortably at 70 and a working heater. Moon on a stick?!

Whatever happened to the sub-£1k thread?

I am also hovering around the bargain basementthread a little more now...

Decided to throw money at the Clio Williams and have that completely rebuilt in the next year.

So, a fast barge has now, potentially, become a £500 Focus estate up the road from me - For the dog!

Then I'll add a sports car the dog is not allowed in. Seemed to make more sense than sharing a 'nice' car with the dog!

Excellent! Thank you sir! You're a gentleman (at least, I'm somewhat brazenly assuming that's the case and Phil isn't short for Phyllis...).

Just went to see an Alfa 166 2.5.

44,000 miles, 1 owner. Electric Momo leather, climate, nav etc.

£500. Rather tempting.

I'd imagine it is, colour scheme?

If I were that owner I'd be beside myself selling it at that money.

Ran one of these for 6 months a couple of years back purchased for the grand sum of £450, cracked windscreen saw it depart (on trade policy with no windscreen cover) Mechanically only thing i replaced was the dog bone engine mount (£70 from Alfa) that I knew needed doing when I bought the car, not sure I would have another one but it scratched the Alfa itch, and was an ok drive for FWD sounded lovely and the engine was a gem (aurally & visually)

Mrs biglips took delivery of a brand new Mini Cooper s convertible this week. Have to say I quite like it and is pretty nippy. Always pleased to get back in the V70 though. Comfiest seats I have had the pleasure of

Lbrary pic, but this red/burgundy with black interior.

Blimey, some nice Alfa action going on here for sub-bag prices. biggrin

Those 166's look much nicer than my 156. I must confess I'm really impressed with the 2.4 diesel (I know it's a dirty word in this thread), but as a snotter engine it's great. 50mpg, sounds great and goes bloody well too (comfortably faster than my MX5 in the crucial 30-80mph range).

Is it located somewhere in the north west and advertised on Autotrader? If so I think I've seen it in my daily 'trader trawl. Sweet.

About 10 years ago, Black & White Alfa (local to me) always seemed to have one of these in stock at any given time. A four door Ferrari! Yours looks great - you got rid because of a windscreen? How much to replace?

Yes. There is no doubt that it was quite a special car and I did not really want to sell it. However, it had got to the point where it needed a few quid spending on it particularly on the bodywork. If I had a garage I would have kept it and done it over time but I wanted to make sure it was passed on to someone who would ensure it was kept on the road for a few more years to come. Hence I advertised it at a price that reflected this and it has found the right home

However, I have been extremely impressed with the V70. Much more modern in every aspect than the 124 and also quite handsome too IMHO. Awesome seats. Interior has cheap plastics that irritates me but what a lot of car for 2k. Full leather heated everything, etc. I am hoping to build a garage in the next 12 months or so and then maybe another 124? E500 is another itch to scratch.....

I love the 166 (though I might try the 3.0 in a GTV)

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2014...

"grey, a stunning example of a collectors merc 1991 300e auto, could be 1 of the cleanest around .every mot from new ans service history . must be seen and driven, Next MOT due 01/06/2015, Tax expires 01/12/2014, £995"

If I didn't have work this weekend I would probably buy it (I have no need at all for another H plate W124 300e 4 door though!)

Could be a nice one that. The advert doesn't tend to fill you with confidence but I think I have grown my beard to the length where I could look at a 124 objectively, not really caring too much about who the seller is etc. If there's a problem I'm pretty sure I will find it or be able to fix it. Buying my E39 was entirely the opposite, I wouldn't have been prepared to look at one which didn't give me a good vibe in the ad.

A bit modern and small for me, but I never realised they did a c320 version of this c class

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2014...

Probably nippy enough and £1,775 for 78k miles seems okay
