Brilliant Q car, tidy conversion and ideal for a prequel to the Taxi films.

Shame it's still 1.6 on the log book.

I really liked this one. Still 1.3 on the log book and the conversion was done over ten years ago. I doubt it has ever been insured or taxed properly.

^regarding the Cosworth...
Personally once a car gets to that stage of rebuild whereby there are next to no original parts I believe the DVLA will have a meltdown if you tried to do the right thing.
Besides, given the engine size has no impact on the tax and no doubt the owner has a very specialist insurance policy it all seems to be far more above board than finding every Corsa XE swap insured as a 1.2 an paying reduced road tax.

Unsurprisingly the reg seems absent and no mention of change of details. Given the admitted faults I would avoid totally I think. Why would you take the risk.

Why would you not want to change the log book? Sounds like a great little car to me.
Still insured as a 1.2 or worse...
DVLA lists that as a black Vauxhall, 1998cc with both tax and MOT. What have I missed?Still insured as a 1.2 or worse...
The origin of this thread was because a friend of mine bought a BMW E36 touring with an M3 3.2 conversion from a stolen car and he lost the lot and nearly ended up charged with receiving stolen goods and theft of a motor vehicle.

Where could the undeclared engine have come from?

Oh, I see what you're saying. I thought you were saying the Astra was dodgy. The origin of this thread was because a friend of mine bought a BMW E36 touring with an M3 3.2 conversion from a stolen car and he lost the lot and nearly ended up charged with receiving stolen goods and theft of a motor vehicle.
That exact one isn't the source of that exact engine, but I suspect that's how most stolen and unrecovered cars like that end up, yes.
My Astra has a variant of that engine so I'd like to see it stay on my drive
