I don't like white cars, but that red pinstripe sets it off wonderfully.

That S600L above is also magnificent (although at multiples of thread budget), that is a great colour combination.

Thud indeed.

I've always been a closet admirer of the XJS and that colour combo is almost an exact match for my M635. A recent jaunt in my 635CSi up the A3 in close company of an XJS was a lovely occasion and an evocation of the more individual and distinct days of car design.

Stunning, thanks for posting.

If the interior wasn't in such good nick I wouldn't even consider it, my gut feeling is with a bit of time and potentially minimal cost it could be cheap motoring... Its a game really!
It's a grand. LOCFTM. As long as you don't intend to make it perfect, it's probably a perfectly sensible place to put the cost of three good lunches. Sorry, you're in Chelsea, two good lunches. If you want a perfect one, then it would probably be better to buy one like the S500 that is being collected today from the famous north London palm tree villa...
I start off at a £1k w220, then see that minty one as just bought by a threadist and think yeah that will do its only 3 grand more. Then I immediately think "lets just go for a nice w221 as its only 4 grand more". So now we are up at £10k. Then I think why am I spending £10k on an S class, I'll get another G500 from Japan for only £5k more. I then realise that I am an addict and I've spiralled out of usedcarsurfing control, so close all open eBay / gumtree/ auto trader windows and leave the room. Come back an hour later and repeat.
So glad i'm not the only one...
I think we're all similarly afflicted; I do this every day!

It's unlikely that you would see a cooler car on the road while driving around in that XJS.

XJS has 6 days left on the auction and currently £3200. What might it go for? Break £5k?

The £500 tax has to render these more worthless than even their modest asking prices. Nutters required.

Shudder.
Is this a new game? Cars with the grimmest interior?

Shudder indeed.

Intentionally grim - you win.

Grimety grim - that Volvo I posted a while back.
56 plate with a petrol engine any bigger than a lawnmower... Doomed.

If that goes for under £5,000 then someone's done really well. Looks fab.

I "need" a stop-gap V8 barge, and am looking at E38s and W210s around the bottom of thread budget. For the purposes of driving four people and their luggage about, how would an E430 stack up against a 735?

Pretty close I'd think. Rear legroom in the W210 is very good for the class of car, probably close to E38. E430 will be faster.

E38 is better looking IMO, but arguably naffer? E38 is in its doldrums, but an E430 is a pretty cool off-radar car I'd say.

Thanks SJ. Interesting about the legroom, I imagined E38s would have had loads more. You have neatly summarised the E430's appeal. Also, as the owner of an E31 I'm not sure I fancy another dose of IBS (incurable Beemer shimmy).

Crikey... that is some table... and some history!! I took a picture for the ad on mine yesterday and thought that was impressive. Sort of blows mine out of the water, though that one is considerably older!

I edited to remove that egregious possessive apostrophe but you've quoted it. Aaaargh.

I am terribly vexed.

They just keep getting better with age. I even like the big single headlights now.

Could a six cylinder car plus a bit of preventive maintenance equal a vaguely useable daily? scratchchin
