I don't see much not to like there.
Truth be told, I think I would prefer the 2.8 to my V8.
Picked up a 51 plate E240 Elegance on Monday from a customer. 100k, one owner and FSH - needs a full valet, rear arches doing, one tyre and the alloys refurbing. Drives really well, shame it's got impractical light grey cloth and not leather...

Cup holders in the E38 were pretty poor (the E65 ones are great) but at least the door pockets were wide enough for a water bottle.... Poxy E39s
That's one thing I always think when I get into my XJ; "who designed these door pockets? What did they want you to put in them?". Carrying on the Jag's trick of being big on the outside and small on the inside, the door pockets are small, shallow and have an angled bottom. Ideal for carrying small things like a phone or change (so, not things you'll use on the road very much). But I suppose there is no room to make them bigger, and if they didn't have the slanted bottom you might drop things in and never get them out. I don't mind, mainly because the interior of the car is so nice I'm compelled to keep it clean and free of detritus. I hate getting in the cars at work and finding a load of st crammed into every storage space (McDonald's wrappers, coffee cups, sweet wrappers, bits of fruit).Baryonyx said:

A friend went in the E65 the other day (they drive a mk4 golf, to be fair) and said it was absolutely massive on the inside it's a good old barge. I can't justify it but I'd love to be able to spend loads on it; I could easily spend £3-4k on it..... Tyres (800 with tracking etc), full suspension refresh (what.... £1500-2000 with all bushes, track control arms etc?), sort the engine oil leak (no idea on cost!). But I think I'd rather sell it for £4-5k, put that £3-4k to put a deposit down around £9k and get the rest on finance for an approved used low mileage E60 M5 or M6 or something... Or an E92 M3.

I had a weak moment like this thinking about the s124 the other day: normally happens if I haven't driven it for a week or more. E9x m3 or c63 in my case. The fact I'd never get the £5k I've put into my car and I'd have nowhere for these two bring me back around...Edited by E65Ross on Thursday 2nd October 22:05
Funny how they rule one's life.
We had to put one of our labs down at Easter, only 6 1/2 years old, which was heart-breaking.
One consequence of that is that Mrs mccrackenj now insists on his brother, Angus, being taken almost everywhere with us. Just about the 1st question she asked about the R129 was "has it got a back seat?". She can see no reason why he can't sit in the back of it with a harness of some sort. I haven't even collected it yet!

Yeah but no but...
Never been keen of the 5 touring for some reason. The e46 will go in spring to be replaced by an ML or similar for the wife. There's no chance the Bassets will be able to jump into that, and the low loading lip on the s124 is brilliant in this regard- it's not very pleasant having to lift up 25kg filthy and soaking wet pooches into the car... so it stays.
Just need to come up with a reason for another car that will pass the Mrs K test. She's been accomodating of my "obsession" as she puts it thus far, but I've been pushing it of late...

Angus always flatly refused to jump into the S124s, or any other car for that mattter. Just will not do it - and even resists being lifted in.Never been keen of the 5 touring for some reason. That's how we ended up the most un-PH car around - a Honda Jazz. Now I leave the rear seat bases folded up and he will walk into the car via the rear doors and lie on his bed where the seat bases should be. Imagine ending up choosing 1 specific make and model of car just because of a dog?
I wonder if I can ever get him to sit in the passenger seat of the R129 with the roof down? He might like that.

Silly barge related question of the week (last week's was around metric tyres - brilliantly answered!) - is there any purpose to the area highlighted below? I love the look of it, and my e23 had a similar, er, 'thing'.
I was about to launch into a monologue about the hofmeister kink and then I zoomed a bit. Blown2CV said:
