Other than myself and RenesisEvo, any other bargistas going to Sunday Service in 2 weeks?

Silly barge related question of the week (last week's was around metric tyres - brilliantly answered!) - is there any purpose to the area highlighted below? I love the look of it, and my e23 had a similar, er, 'thing'.

Passenger compartment ventilation outlet. Also on E24's.
And on 190Es

Bloody hell! That looks good biggrin
Ex Derin IIRC..... Looks like his pictures to!
Yes, I thought it looked familiar
God that looks wonderful - Derin's site: http://www.bmwclassics.co.uk/e28_528i_se_silver/in...

Please can someone on here buy it ASAP. Surely it's a bargain at that price.
Yes, I sold that car maybe 6-7 years ago. Haven't seen it again since. It was a stunningly good-looking car.

Sadly, apparently the chap I sold it to died earlier this year and it's his brother now selling it.

If I hadn't recently bought one of my ex-E34s back I would have given serious consideration to buying that one back.

It's a bit bold to use Derin's old photos, unless they have prepared it to similarly OCD standards!

Not sure if we've had this before?

Pricey, but sounds very well cared for.

I think that's been for sale, at least with those photographs for about 3 years.

If that's true, there must be something seriously wrong with it which isn't visible. It looks great, but if you're right I won't go to see it.

You can't in all honesty really assume that - it could be the hidden gem that nobody has got off their arse to go and see. If you're at all interested and it's close enough to you then zip along and see it.

Was in absolutely no hurry today to get to/from a course I was on for work, had to drive to Bournemouth from mine and back, a 70 mile round trip with circa 3 miles town my end each way, and the same again at Bournemouth (was worse at the B'mouth end) and sitting at 100km/h with the odd overtake speeding up to 70-75 the 4.4 V8 7er managed 33mpg over the 70 miles (2 cold starts, as the course was 10 hours long).

I won't be doing that for tomorrow for the 2nd part of the course, it was too boring, but interesting to see what it could get on a gentle amble.

I get an indicated 33mpg from my E39 540 Touring with the cruise set to 70mph.

So do I. That figure includes around 12 miles of town driving with traffic lights etc and some roundabouts, and 2 cold starts. If I reset the obc once on the motorway and up to temp it'll get better than the figure mentioned above.

Plus, it's a bigger, heavier car with over 15% more power....

Weight and power isn't really relevant though, really. Drag and gearing are.

Is the front passenger wing a different shade of silver? Only looks like the top, which makes me think its the light.

Bodywork and interior look stunning though!

Yep, the E500 with the seven speed box is pretty good on a run as it's turning over a couple of hundred rpm less than the BMW V8 at like for like cruising speed.

Today I will mainly be attempting to change my PCV without rounding off a torx bolt (and thus wasting next weekend removing the intake manifold). Wish me luck.

BTDT, still got the emotional scars of having to remove the inlet manifold, so good luck.

Plusgas x many for that kind of thing tbh.

I've spent the last two weekends rebuilding my shed Alfa's suspension, and it's been a real nightmare with a handful of bolts which have completely seized into aluminium suspension components (what a great idea... rolleyes).

Didn't realise you had sold the 550iT for some reason, that was a lovely car! Lovely spec, too. If you don't mind me asking, what year is your E500? If we ever do a pub club again that you're attending let me know if you could, wouldn't mind a nose around it biggrin

Regards to rpm on the motorway, I think mine has been judged very well. Any less and it probably wouldn't have the torque to pull the gear properly as you'd expect a decent size lump to, and it'd shift from 6th to 5th up steeper inclines. at 100mph it's doing around 2800rpm, I'm not sure if that's any different to the 550i?

My dad used to have a CLK350 which had the 7G tronic, it was a brilliant gearbox. that revved very low (can't recall exactly, but maybe similar to my 745i) but suspect they made the V8 slightly taller....? What rpm does yours do at motorway speeds?

It's funny isn't it, when I had the E38 728i, I wanted very similar gearing for 1st and 5th but another gear so the gaps in between ratios was smaller to help with acceleration. I pretty much have exactly that with the 745i, 6th is only a touch taller than 5th in the E38's 5 speed, and 1st-5th are all that bit shorter (most notably 5th in the E65); but now I wish I had something like the 7G tronic, or the ZF 8 speed box.....never satisfied biggrin

The 7 speed DCT in the M6 revs very low on the motorway, a few hundred rpm less at 100mph than my 745i; but the M6 makes SO much torque from something like 1500rpm it can comfortably pull it.

Hi Ross, I did sell the 550i as I had to give up driving for medical reasons for a while (and hence not been to any meets). In fact I have nothing at all presently, I am shopping for a car as we speak. So... I don't have an E500 although it is on my radar amongst other things (see below out of thread budget though), and just going by what I have been told about them that's all!
