Thats the thing, there doesnt seem to be a off. Atleast not on the normal switch, only just got the car so learning things still.
Been a while since i've driven that model, W220?

If so I think radio works without ignition in P2 regardless, you wont be opening windows/roof etc after 10 mins or if you open & close doors though, if not turn ignition to P2 & put `parking light` on left or right, dont forget to return switch to centre if leaving car!!

it's only an issue on cars with manual headlights... are there that many cars that have DRLs but no auto-lights nowadays?
Clearly there is from the number of cars driving round on DRLs and no tail lights.
it's OK to drive around on DRLs (like there is an option to not) with no tail-lights, if it is indeed not dark outside.
And when it's pitch-dark, or foggy?
Or heading into low sun, when the road is nice and shiny?
in those instances the driver enables the lights manually... why is DRL the issue?

Anyone of the several people around here who's personalised number plate started BO55. All knobs. One in particular, who I had a run in with is such a massive know, his knobbishness can be clearly seen from the ISS. They even saw is L320RRS crashed into the hedge on the lightest frost known to mankind.
Good shout. Had one of these 'BO55' plated jobbies cut me up exciting a roundabout in Rickmansworth Thursday.
Am I a knob if BO55 came with the car when I bought it? The plates probably worth more than the car now.
it's difficult to give a character reference, if we hardly know you.

But, would you buy the car...because of the plate.

BO55 *** is an unlikely DVLA free registration, TBH.

The "Woking Community Transport" "Bustler" dial-a-ride driver in Farnborough tonight.

Heading down the A325 from Frimley to Farnborough.

I was behind the dribbler at the roundabout before the dual carriageway. 2 lane entry, 2 lane exit. We're both in lane 1. The roundabout clears, and off we go. No problems so far. But then the idiot driving the bus (I thought the special needs folk were meant to ride in the back?) straight-lines the roundabout, exiting in lane 2.

At this point my spidey-senses are tingling, so I hang back. A black crew-cab is in lane 2 directly behind the bus, not unreasonably expecting to accelerate to at least the 40mph speed limit. But no, the twazzock steering the bus decides that 30mph will do just fine. In lane 2 don't forget, and with me stuck a little way back in lane 1 unwilling to risk a nearside pass. So the pickup driver can't put in his desired nearside pass either.

I flash my headlamps repeatedly. An invite to the bus driver to move over out of the way of faster traffic. He doesn't move over. I'm stuck now, having to drop further back because I need lane 2 at the next roundabout to make a right turn. Our little bus/pickup/me convoy continues in lane 2 right up until the signs for the roundabout, whereupon twinkletoes in the bus realises he wanted lane 1 all along! Across he comes, with no warning, no signal. Fortunately the car alongside me in lane 1 wasn't caning it, nor any closer than he was, and he managed to hold back enough to avoid being driven into the Armco.

Then we get to the roundabout. The pickup has got across before me, the bus is waiting in the left lane (straight over) and I'm lead car in the right lane (right turn). There's a white VW Caddy van on the roundabout to my right, so I prepare to join the roundabout after he's passed. Sadly, Bartimaeus the Bus Driver either hasn't seen the VW, or doesn't feel inclined to wait. As I pull away there's a very long "Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep!" as the van anchors up to avoid piling into the side of the bus, and my wife asks "was he beeping at you?" - "Erm? No dear, because I was behind him when he sounded his horn"...
rolleyes

Last seen disappearing toward Farnborough town centre, apparently oblivious to the problems he's causing to all and sundry, this driver is an utter twunt. So if you spot a Woking Community Transport 'Bustler' on your travels, I'd strongly suggest giving it as wide a berth as the available road space will permit. Really piss-poor driving, made worse because I presume the passengers for this type of service tend to be elderly, frail, disabled, vulnerable, or a combination of any/all of the above. And quite frankly, those passengers deserve better...

DRLs again (potentially).

I come up behind a SUV (66 plate, possibly a Honda) with no rear lights in total darkness last night. In and out of tiny villages and what surprised me is that they were switching their full beams on when out of the villages. I flashed them, lots, but they didn't pay any attention for the 5+ minutes I followed them.

I can kind of work out why they may not have noticed they didn't actually have their lights on...

a) the stupid design decision for most new cars to have always illuminated instrument clusters

b) well lit villages, meaning when not on full beam they probably wouldn't have noticed any difference, and my headlights would have been illuminating reflective road signs for them

c) No traffic coming the other way to flash them as well

But, surely you can't switch full beam on without having headlights on?!
I did an experiment in our Corsa which has LED DRLs, on a single track lane I switched to the DRLs, and I think it would be impossible to confuse with dipped headlight, you just just get a very dull light that illuminated hardly anything. However if parked up to a wall it produced a high level of light that, if you were only a bit thick you may confuse for headlights, until you start moving where you realise there is no longer a beam of light in front of the car. I've not tried this on busy roads for obvious reasons but my conclusion is only very thick people can make this mistake.
Also, in the Corsa at least the instrument clusters lit up but nothing else inside is, radio, AC, steering wheel buttons all dark, and obviously no little green symbol to say lights are on.

How does one excite a roundabout in "Rickmansworth Thursday"?

There probably aren't many cars without auto lights any more, the problem being you can over-ride them!
My 2016 car doesn't have auto lights.

My old civic had auto lights but I used the feature a couple of times before never using it as my commute took me through a lot of overhanging trees that it would end up looking like I'm flashing the car in front and then pulling over thinking I'm an irate driver.

This one had full beams on as soon as we left the villages and into areas with no street lights. In well lit towns/villages dipped headlights (or not) aren't particularly obvious out in front of your car.

Please show me where to override my auto lights on my Merc S430. Annoying when sat in a car park waiting for someone and if you have the ignition on the lights auto come on so they are on when just trying to get the radio. And no I dont mean the DRL's.
Doesn't the stereo turn on if you press the power button on it without the ignition. Just about every car in the past 10 years I've driven did this, normally on a timer so you can't leave it on forever.

As I drove home last night, I got caught up behind a Juke that wouldn't move from the outside lane of the dual carriageway, but also wouldn't exceed 60mph.
Yes, we were overtaking a few trucks and so forth, but it was frustrating that I wanted to make a bit better progress than the Juke was allowing.

Sweet relief, I thought, when he/she finally moved across to the left on the approach to a roundabout where I was turning right, joy, they must be going left, as there is only right and left at this particular roundabout, and no straight ahead option.

My relief was short lived. Mr/Mrs Juke driver then was alongside me at the front of the roundabout queue, where they then proceeded to pull out just a bit too close to a car coming from the right (cue heavy braking and horn action from that guy) and then went all the way around the outside of the roundabout to also turn right! Right! And guess what, as soon as they exited, still on Dual carriageway, they were straight back to the outside lane again as they exited, just ahead of me yet again (as I didn't pull out in front of the oncoming car) and now with nobody even to overtake!

White transit van on A31 this morning. In the dirt on the rear door some had scrawled "DON'T UNDERTAKE" with a large arrow pointing to the right.

Naturally the driver was sitting on the right-hand lane passing precisely nothing and was drinking from a cardboard coffee cup as I passed on his left. And he had a headlight out.

Perhaps that was just career advice?

Can't say if the plate was original or privately fitted prior to me buying it. Didn't even notice until after the paperwork was signed. Mind you, I probably am a knob for several reasons but a BO55 numberplate isn't one of them (I hope).
