Ah, fair enough. Personally I'm well tempted by the CLK 500 there, 2002 and under 60k for sub £5000 seems rather good

Maybe I'm being taken in by the pics but it looks like a well looked after 190E with the 2.6 engine that makes a lot of difference.

All for only £1,367! Surely you can't lose at that price?
Crivvens!

I saw that on their website a couple of weeks ago at (I think) £2.5k. From the pics and the description of work done it certainly looked well worth that. But £1367? Someone's done very well there surely?

For me I prefer the 36 as it's quite a raw engine, and I have memories of selling them new too.

The 55 is a stormer, make no mistake, but the rarity of the 36 appeals (and the nice noise too)
The 36 is a fantastic engine in the C36 I used as a donor car for my SL project it had a turbine like delivery up to some very silly speeds.

So far I have put a C36 lump next to an R107 in my garage. But yes that is the plan.

I have the sub frame modified to take the different sump on the C36 engine and am currently in the process of slowly re building the front suspension / steering with all new bits. At the current rate of progress I expect the engine to be in sometime in 2015!

Me too,, though 2002 was during Mercs 'dodgy' period, someone on here said they had been offered £5,500 for their '04 CLK 500 and I'd sleep better if I spent a bit more on a post '04 car.

somewhere earlier in the thread i mentioned what happened to my dads '06 CLK350 cab when he owned from new until early 2009. trust me, i wouldn't rest any easier if it was even later than '06 wink

that said, it was ALL build quality related. the only time the car wasn't driveable was when the roof mechanism broke with the roof a few cms from being fully closed.

Does sound like a good project, the R107 was never blessed with anything like that out of the box

A lot of car for the money but pre 04 and judging by Ross above post 04 are to be avoided. Garlick seems to have the right idea by going pre 99...

and yet it's still over-priced IMO. £1500 for a 300,000 mile car which is 22 years old.....

Nice, but I'd be more tempted by:

2002 MERCEDES-BENZ CLK 500 Avantgarde 2dr Tip Auto Coupe

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2011...

Although admittedly, it's not quite as Minty, I'd have a £150 to spend on AutoGlym products compared to your choice...

Horses for courses though...

The fees put it just over the £5k budget, but you could have got a red, V12 Ferrari for £5k yesterday. Sounds mint too wink

pointless to this thread, because it doesn't have an MOT and sounds like it's basically a non-runner.

Oh come on, it would sail through, it just hasn't moved for 5 years! The V12 engine is in running order, though apparently "requires some tuning of the ignition and carburetters", the automatic gearbox is "all working", the bodywork is "sound but edgy", the paintwork is "bright overall", the seats and headlining are "very good", though I accept the carpets are "tatty or missing". The DUI 733 plate must be worth a few quid too. Maybe the last chance ever to get a V12 Ferrari for £5k, how could you possibly not love it?
