Jeez, lighten up. You may see that this is a "cars for sale" thread. But you don't understand the general environment of it, do you.

Fixed that quoting for you, too.
I think you should stop taking yourself so seriously.

Hi everybody, as a former barge-keeper I tend to visit this thread everyday and finally I just had to post. What do we all think of this W124, for sale just round the corner from me?

http://www.topgear-carsales.co.uk/used-cars/merced...

I had a look around it the other day and the finish and build quality appears to be very good indeed, I think I can finally understand why people are so keen on these! Anybody have any experience of the 2.3 unit coupled with an autobox?
Nice colour scheme. Very basic spec. Needs 8- or 15-hole alloys as a condition of sale. Wonder if it's done much towing?

Drove a 230E once and found it rather sluggish, but the car I drove had a blowing head gasket so perhaps it was slower than usual. The later 16 valve 220E was faster & more economical but apparently more unrefined.

I found the automatic 230E quite low-geared - about 3500rpm at 70mph in top.

Anyway, can't recall if I asked......other than RenesisEvo, are any other threadists going to Sunday Service at Silverstone this weekend? I'll be heading down there in the barge, hopefully I'll get chance to clean it Saturday as it's not been cleaned for quite a while!!
Heading down with a few pals. My CLK55, a Mate is E34 540 and an S4 hopefully!

Hi Judas, I see you've dropped the price on your 750 a bit, have you not had much interest? Any thoughts on keeping her perhaps?

My uncle used to have a 230E auto like this many years ago, before he replaced it with a 260E and then a 280E. I drove it a few times. They lope along ably enough but the engine is nothing special in terms of refinement and even in the day, they were 'adequate' rather than in any way quick. I have nothing against them but on the basis of the one example I have tried I would always tend to go for a six cylinder. Even the baby six, the 260E, was a much more impressive and melodious car.

On the other hand the 2-litre in the 190E was a decent enough package, perhaps the smaller engine seemed smoother, and of course had less weight to punt around.

To me, it just says that the seller is lazy and thinks nothing of appropriating others work.
Yes. It is not something that inspires one to have confidence in a vendor. It makes me doubt everything else in the advert.

I will personally wire you £5 in beer tokens if you ask the guy why he plagiarised another advert on this site.

I'd love to keep her, but now the Bentley's arrived the chances of that are slim to non. Three barges is excessive even by my distorted standards hehe

Interest has been thin on the ground and mostly from idiot texters. However, a friend (and fellow PH'er) is returning from Oz early December and had said he'll have it provided it passes it's MOT and will fit in his garage. He used to have an XJS which fitted, but with not much space to spare, so it's 50/50 whether Brunhilda will fit.

I emailed the seller to ask the same. Just had a reply where he compliments me for my impeccable writing skills biggrin It's a little irksome to have taken the care and time to write an ad that like that so it stood out from the usual dross, only for it to be copied wholesale. But sod it - no hard feelings in particular smile

Why bizarre? It's an advert. Unless he has another to sell, how can it affect him in any meaningful way?
Unless Queen and David Bowie were going to completely reuse the bassline from Under Pressure in another song, how can it have affected them in any meaningful way that Vanilla Ice nicked it for Ice Ice Baby?

It's usually scammers that copy and paste text from classified ads. I somehow think we are safe with a £750 7 series though. smile

Piece of piss.

Take to supermarket. Brim it. Park it up for a day or two. See how big the puddle is.

£120 of petrol is cheaper than fixing an Emmental tank...

except if it does leak then it's cost you a tank and its contents?

No, because you wouldn't bother fixing the tank. smile

With LPG I'd leave it on fumes (so no leak) and then run LPG smile

Although LPG on my 323 got awful MPG frown pretty sure that was the engine in that 323 though...

Which is all well and good, but ideally you want to know before you buy the car. Donating £120's worth of petrol to the seller could be seen as foolish smile

Common leak areas are the filler neck where it joins the tank, and the bottom of the tank - the latter's easy to check: just run your hand over the bottom (both sides) and see if then smells of fuel. If it does, walk away.
