Which is all well and good, but ideally you want to know before you buy the car. Donating £120's worth of petrol to the seller could be seen as foolish smile

Common leak areas are the filler neck where it joins the tank, and the bottom of the tank - the latter's easy to check: just run your hand over the bottom (both sides) and see if then smells of fuel. If it does, walk away.
Stop talking sense! hehe

That LPG E38 seems like a steal for £750. Same LPG set up as my M62 E31, which I've had no issues with in 4,000 miles (perhaps astonishingly, given it's an Italian system).

Must be harbouring some biggish flaws at that price, but should be easy to see if any are deal-breakers. Assume the A/C is shafted (Ye Olde Needs-a-Regas Gambit). May well have a degree of shimmy - drive it at a steady 50-60 to see if it's bearable. Check for any overly ominous gearbox clunks or other noises of doom. As stated, if there's a fuel-tank issue you might be able to live with it given the LPG factor, and the consequent capability to just keep a dribble of pez in there.

Other than that you'll probably be fine. Should break for a decent amount if not (you might get £300 for the LPG kit if you're lucky).

Fuel tanks easy to check?
Piece of piss.

Take to supermarket. Brim it. Park it up for a day or two. See how big the puddle is.

£120 of petrol is cheaper than fixing an Emmental tank...
except if it does leak then it's cost you a tank and its contents?
No, because you wouldn't bother fixing the tank. smile

There was a clownface smiley on my post, which should have been self-evident really. Apprently not. hehe

Anyway, can't recall if I asked......other than RenesisEvo, are any other threadists going to Sunday Service at Silverstone this weekend? I'll be heading down there in the barge, hopefully I'll get chance to clean it Saturday as it's not been cleaned for quite a while!!
Heading down with a few pals. My CLK55, a Mate is E34 540 and an S4 hopefully!
Fantastic, I'll be having a peek at those cars, especially the CLK55 and the E34! Hopefully the weather holds up.

I'm not optimistic I'll have mine cleaned for Sunday. It's still at the garage (long story, but it needed nothing to pass the MoT); collecting tomorrow lunchtime, then I'll be spending all Saturday splashing about the lanes of Oxfordshire. So plan B is to get is as dirty as possible - I like my cars concours or wearing a coat of hard-earned grime, anywhere in-between is a bit naff. Looking forward to meeting you all.

I'd love to give that 750iL a home, but among other things I can't reason with buying a bigger engine with less power, even if it is a V12.

Dear E24man, please provide a link where I can buy that B12 within thread budget... rotate
Well not a 6.0 car but a tired and still roadworthy rhd B12 5.7 saloon was sold to a trader inside the thread budget a couple of years ago.... the trader immediately doubled the price and it remained unsold for a year before 'disappearing'.

I was drooling over that last night. If I hadn't just bought the R129 . . etc.

Must sell a car, not buy another, must sell a car, not buy another, must sell . . . .

Just give us a bell when you've had a nose around the others and I'll be happy to oblige in giving you a nose around the 745i. Same applied for S3 Graham.... If you are remotely interested in looking at the E65 send me a pm and we'll sort something out.

Cheers.

£750 for a V8 LPG anyone?

It's a no go from me.

The guy selling was nice, honest. It looks ok, few bits of poor touch up, both rear arches are rusty, another patch on the pillar. Dent on the bootlid, dent by the rear light, couldn't really check for fuel leaks as it was dark. Cracked rear valance.

Interior is better, all there, clean enough and look 'honest' for its 168k.

Drove ok, slipped on first gear a tiny bit when it was cold but soon as warm it was on the button through all gears. It's been lowered on proper springs, not just chopped.

So, worth the money. Except...

The backboxes have been hacksaw'd off. It's loud. Like, really loud! Not a particularly nice noise either. Just BAaAAAHHHH every time you accelerate. Such a shame as other than that it's a cheap old bus that I'd hack about in until it died.

Still. As a bonus I was thinking of changing the exhaust on my clk. Not anymore! I'll keep the low burble! frown

The speedometer shows 46k miles, but if you know about W124's they were known for having speedometers replaced as a common fault, this is stamped in the service book at 70k so all is above board and honest. The mileage is roughly 100k
Isn't 70k miles + 46k miles not roughly 100k, more like 116k.

Hi Harry. Haven't driven it much really, couple of times to work and one Sunday afternoon outing with Mrs and the mut. Drove home from work yesterday with the roof down, which was pleasant.

A few things to sort out: central locking inoperative, window drop down function doesn't work on driver's door, so top of window fouls on the roof weather trim, steering column electric adjustment inoperative, both internal door trim panels have broken clips so flap about annoyingly, paint on bonnet not very good. And I've managed to scrape the corner of the bumper on the side of the house and remove about a 2 1/2" X 1 1/2" section of paint!

But it drives really nicely, albeit I am a bit surprised b the amount of noise from the roof panel at more than about 40mph. The hard top is going on again this weekend if it's dry (doubtful)

Bottom line is, I like it!

But how long before I start hankering after a really good one?

Still low miles for a 300e... That colour combination.

If mine wasn't in for a suspension tighten up, the cruise control being fixed, new tyres (and I will find something else to be fixed / "restored" before next week)....

Not wishing to split hairs but it's 74k + 46k so 120k. Looks lovely all the same and reasonably priced I'd say. A threadist should sooo buy it.
