RE: Spotted: Jaguar XJ220S
Discussion
I've always had a soft spot in my petrol-pump (see what I did there?) for the XJ220. I know it was a flop, and I know it was very quickly eclipsed by the Macca F1, but I can't help but love an underdog. Even the normal one was/is effing quick, even by todays standards. I was never a big fan of the TWR versions though. I think pop-up headlamps are just better than any other headlamp, so I miss the interesting ones the 220 had.

reducing weight by 400kg and boosting power will make this comfortably faster than a veyron I reckon
Nah. I would think the Bug would be quite alot faster to be honest. This is really really cool though!
Great article. Thanks PH
Seems great value... for entry into the hyper car club! Love it.

was this the car clarkson drove on either top gear or one of his other shows in the late 90's? I remember him doing a test on one and im sure it was yellow with yellow wheels?detomaso said:

I remember him doing a test on one and im sure it was yellow with yellow wheels? For it's sheer exhuberance and lack of political correctness I could really get to love this as my everyday car. My village garage would love to do it's M.O.T. too, so all I need now is a government grant for a minority car choice, or given my dodgy knees a get around grant and a blue free parking sticker. As Goodwood is not far away some track days too, I would like to change the paint so a sponsorship opportunity for my local Jaguar distributor Harwoods beckons, with free servicing thrown in , and a pro quid pro to them is they could store it in their showroom or at least on site for extra showroom pull. Now all i need is a deposit?
Fantastic car even with 'only' the V6 engine. I have been lucky enough to see the V12 engined original car move, very quickly, under it's own power.
A true beast in every sense of the word and an under-rated supercar. It would have been one of the greatest ever supercars had Jaguar stayed with the V12.
A misses opporunity there i think.
I also drove one myself many years ago. It was a big car with a lot of power which is just what the doctor ordered.
As i recall when Clarkson drove the car the tape player popped out from the dashboard when he hit the throttle - as he does!!

Now why can't the 'light-weight' versions of todays cars also loose 400kilos instead of just the typical the 15-25kilos.
Exactly this^I always thought the 220 was sent to production one visit to the drawing board too soon, the front & rear overhangs, wheel placement and overall look makes it look "soft" when clearly it isn't... but then it is a Jaaaaaggg I suppose ;-)
