My 83 cherry is at 135k which is impresive for a 30 year old petrol car, atleast in my opinion.

I've been in several taxis in Dubai with 700,000+ KM's on the clock. Got talking to one of the cabbies in a 770km Hyundai Sonata that said the car was only two years old. He said once the cars go into service they only stop for maintenance. 2 x 12 hr shifts from 5 'til 5 each day. I was quite impressed. Also explains why they drive like nutters!

They only use three cars: Hyundai Sonata, Toyota Camry and Nissan Altima.
Thats more than 1050 kms every day???

Or 44kph non stop since it was new did he ever stop to pick people up and drop off?

There might not be too many who will get that reference!

BTW ... e39 525d 221k miles. Original starter/clutch/alternator. Changed front dampers last week as one had started to leak - rears are original. Some bushes changed over time, and a couple of rear wheel bearings, too. Other than that - just servicing.

1998 Audi A4 1.9TDI - 217,000.

The one we had before (1996) had about 225 on it before it inevitably... went through a hedge. cry

No pictures at the minute, but I got a Mitsubishi Magna 1998 3.5 V6 with 347,000km on the clock. Still runs fine, auto box squeaks a bit under hard acceleration though smile

Another W124 here, 212,000 mile 220TE. Still going strong and recorded 153bhp on the rollers about a month ago (it left the factory with 150 bhp). Just passed another MOT on Tuesday with 2 advisories. It looks good and drives very well still on original engine, clutch and diff. Has needed a new front loom though. It is definitely a keeper, the leather is still in great condition and its a manual too :-). Most new cars will see 200,000 miles these days but the miles wont be as pleasurable as the ones done in a W124 :-)

Do you have,

  • A. Season ticket at the MG Rover head gasket shop?
or

  • B. Season ticket at the Mazda RX-8 engine shop?
I don't have a season ticket, how about you?

Several MGs and Rovers I have owned over the past thirty years, both new and used, completed high mileages without incident. Most exceeding 150,000 and closing on 200,000 when I passed them on to friends or relatives.

My son's Rover 620ti is currently 198,000+ miles and is his hard used daily driver workhorse. He is determined to reach 200,000. On Sunday, the car was subjected to no less than 19 runs down the 1/4 mile Shakespeare drag strip and completed every one without incident.

Typical !! As you were ~ spread the HGFs myths rolleyes After all, I bet you have a season ticket to the "They all do that" mindset club!

Car MECHANICS magazine have a long running 200,000 mile article featuring various cars. A while back there was a Montego featured which covered 800,000 miles on the original head gasket. Mind you, needed new bearings in the gearbox.

So there ! ... wink

I have no experience of the Mazda with the wankel power unit.

617 miles per 24 hrs. Done in 2 x 12 hr shifts so 308.5 miles per 12 hr shift. Seems doable to me. They don't hang about either. Driver said they sell the cabs on at 750-800k and they still have a bit of life left in them.

Highways Agency???.

Serious mileage for a 2010 - and if the mpg showing on the dash is accuate - thats quite impressive fuel consumption for something the size and wieght of a Discovery 3.

DPF certainly gets plenty of opportunity to work with that amount of driving biggrin.

Family snotter has 182 k on it - and in theory should last more or less indefinitely with maintenance.

In reality - boredom could set in biggrin.

My mate has a W reg 306 diesel that he's had from nearly new and uses to hack back and forth to work, having reached the point that it's hardly worth anything but it keeps going, his plan was to drive it until something big falls off, but his Mrs thinks they should replace it.

So they went to look at something newer at a garage last week, the salesman typed in the details - took something off the value for mileage above average and said 'You owe me £65!'

He did increase that to £200 though!

The Monaro has done nearly 217k now (though thankfully from a fuel perspective only the last 1k are mine), engine and box feel very fresh.

Saab has done about 221k although that did have the timing chain replaced and a top end refresh at about 180k. Currently rebuilding the front suspension.
