Were they keys by the front door? Isnt this the last place they should be overnight?
As others have already said, if someone armed with tools wants my car at 3am, they can have it without venturing further inside the front door. It's only a car. Difficult to drive it with a brain injury after getting a torque wrench or something smacked into your skull.

Many insurance company's do not even discount you if you have one fitted as well.
Many insurance company's will not even insure it unless you have one fitted.I thought it would make it cheaper for me it did not?

Just shows that installing a tracker, and paying a subscription is a waste of time.
Yeah, it's not like they actually have a ridiculously high recovery rate usually is it? ![rolleyes](/inc/images/rolleyes.gif)
If they really want something, they will have it.

If I owned a car like that I would most definitely leave the keys somewhere immediately obvious to a s
tbag who breaks in.
I don't want them to have to come upstairs to find them - I'd much rather the a
holes never came near my daughter, my Mrs or myself. It's a car - how much of a toss do I really give about keeping it if it puts any of us in danger?
If insurance companies are expecting me to guard the poxy car keys with my life, tough. All it takes to swerve it is a bit of BS about being confronted a bloke in a balaclava wielding a knife/sledgehammer. Bonus that if they catch 'em they might just get an extra f
king for armed robbery.

My sentiments exactly. In the end of the day, no matter how angry I am at the thieving scums, I know that I can replace the car but not my family.![](/inc/images/censored.gif)

Yup. House has monitored alarm and night vision cameras all round recording to a server on internet landThe instant the alarm is triggered - my immediate thought is not to rush down the stairs to confront the burglar.
Ground floor - he can fill his boots.

We hide our keys completely out of sight. In fact, I'd be surprised if anyone could find them, they're really well hidden. Lets hope we don't get robbed...![](/inc/images/censored.gif)

And what happens when you get broken into for the keys and they come up after the keys? They have gone far enough to break in what else would they do? For the sake of a bit of metal I dont see why you wouldnt just leave them where they can find them and leave? Not having a pop, each to their own but just wondering what you would do if some blokes dragged you and the mrs (maybe kids) out of bed at knife/gun point wanting the keys?thehammer said:

What if, for the sake of argument, a burglar broke in and on triggering the alarm awoke the householder, who, in fear for his family and protecting them and his home, picked up a nearby implement and beat the s![](/inc/images/censored.gif)

TBF I do understand where you are coming from as the first thing you would do is go straight downstairs if your alarm goes off possibly tooled up. But if your keys were in a position that a thief would be able to find quickly then by the time you got down there they would be out with the keys and gone in the car leaving you angery but still alive, also your kids/wife have not seen you beat a crackhead to death/be beaten to death by a crackhead.
There are many variables to this and I am looking at the worst case but i just see that the best thing would to make it easy for them ONCE they have gone through the process of breaking into your home.

The likes of the police, lawyers and judges would be jumping with joy about the prospect of punishing an innocent person, stealing loads of taxpayers money and making sure the criminal got treated well at the taxpayers' expense.![](/inc/images/censored.gif)

My point of view will probably change if/when I have kids, but at the moment if they want it that badly, they're going to have to work to get it.
On the other hand, my girlfriend would probably just throw the keys at them to get them to leave...
Like i said mate each to their own.
Im not being a nob and understand that you worked hard for your ped but thats also what you pay insurance for, so you dont have to fight anyone to guard against loss. I also understand your point about centement you can look lovingly at a car your dad gave you before he died if you dead or brain damaged now can you.
Fair play to you for understanding that your view may change when you have kids, i have and wouldnt want to place any risk on them that could be diverted in such a simple way.
Oh well lets hope none of us get robbed....
