When was the last time that Peugeot or Citroen produced an even acceptable hot hatch chassis? I'd say for Peugeot, it's the 306 or 106 (not sure which was later); for Citroen, I haven't a clue.

Renault are, of course, a different matter.
Err - DS3R? 208 GTi?

I suspect the Clio/208 are objectively better than the Kia in all areas, but the test team were all gee'd up for a "RS cup/new 205" and hence the disappointment!

I thought the 208 GTi was pretty awful. Haven't driven a DS3R though, so you may be right there.

Neither is in the same class as this car though; they're both a sector smaller.

Both too small to compare. You should be looking at the Meganne and 308.

There will never be a "new 205 GTi". You just can't produce a car like that any more. frown

I've yet to read a review that says the 208 GTi isn't the best thing Peugeot's done in decades. Once the reviewer makes the point that it's not going to be a new 205 GTi no matter how much they want it to be and judges it on its merits, I've yet to find a bad review. In fact most I've read rate it ahead of the new paddleshift Clio RS.

[quote=Agoogy]Tinted rear windows, when will that fad die.....?!

I hate tinted rear windows/privacy glass, call it what you like: often difficult to see out of them when reversing or in poor light conditions and they make the car look like it was built out of the front and rear of two different vehicles.... may be handy if you like to have some nookie on the back seat or if you are a drug dealer carrying a large load of substances...... the trouble is, once you have got it, you are stuck with it and it may not be a delete option on the trim level of the vehicle you want.

A much better solution that I discovered by accident, is a set of sun shades bespoke for your model of car, that you can still see through and which, as they just clip into place in seconds, can also be removed when you don't need them and can be stowed in the zipper bag provided; I have a set on my Omega Elite estate and they look brilliant and are available for a huge number of cars from:

www.vanstyle.co.uk

who also do lots of stuff to bling-up your van if you are so-inclined...

I'm waiting for a review from Monkey Harris featuring gratuitous slo-mo lift-off oversteer.

Unless he aims his non existent weapons at Slovakia where it is manufactured then this (non) issue wont be an issue anyway.

Kia are making some really nice looking cars these days. If I had 20k I would buy this.

Providing you can drive the DS3R long enough without the timing slipping out of sync and ruining the engine, right? Don't get me wrong I am sure they are a capable car and they look pretty funky but stuff buying one with the engine troubles they have had reported against them.

It seems strange to me that a review of a "hot hatch" (ok, a warm one then) that includes lines such as:

"The steering is acceptable"

"The engine doesn't like reving over 5000"

"The exhaust note is dull"

"It handles ok, but it's not very sharp"

"The brake feel is poor and the pedal lengths when used hard"

etc, etc

Then goes on to proclaim the death of previous hot hatch champs from Peugeot and Citroen.

I suspect that your expectations were just a bit lower for this one eh chaps??
I agree 100%, as I've already said, it looks great, but they basically described the most important features of this car as average at best one by one..... Verdict, buy a Focus ST.

Which is also average in every respect but more expensive, less reliable and uglier? hehe

I haven't actually driven one, but the reviews of the mk3 have been less than stellar.

I wasn't old enough to get a Suburu when nobody had heard of them or couldn't look past the badge snobbery. Now I'm of an age when if an unknown brand came along with a 280bhp standard turbocharged engine at a price under 20 grand I would try and pick one up. Scoobys and Mitsibishi Evo's were astonishingly good value back in the mid late nineties. Kia turn up the wick but keep the price achievable please.

Looks a lot better than most modern blobs so props to KIA for the brilliant way they are establishing themself as a really good alternative to the big players. I like their grille - bit of Escort Mk 1 to it.

A few years ago, I wouldn't have enteratined a Kia and even the last Cee'd diesel, I had as a hire car, was competent but still fairly undesirable so this could change all that in one fell swoop.

Go KIA.
