am a Porker fan through and through though a little less love for the turbo highly accomplished that it is ..have seen a few 12c's around now and whilst initially unsure about the purity of design particularly vs. Italian exotica, in the flesh they are properly epic machines just standing still. Saw one coming out of the city a few weeks back - it was giving it the beans over London Bridge and it made me smile as it still does now when I think about it ..essentially sticking two fingers up at... well most of the day to day mundane then most recently in Guildford parked smack bang in the middle of the town centre which is no stranger to various exotica parked up on a Saturday...the owner could have done the right thing and discreetly driven off with full cred intact but aware instead of a good many envious eyes, was enthusiastic with the loud pedal - epic noise and an omnipotent road presence and at 46 years old and I was 18 again just for a minute...proper cars still manage to do that..
I may well know the driver who lives in Bramley (he was once my boss and more recently is Jules Bianchi's / Max Chilton's)... and that car makes him 18 again at aged 54 ish! Great vid as usual and for what its worth the McLaren gets my vote (and I am a Porsche enthusiast) but the 12c is very special indeed and basically represents my grail car....

I'd love to see the Nismo GTR, or a Litchfield GTR, as they would both be cheaper, faster, and I suspect, would come out on top.
They don't do sense of occasion though. That's why they're cheaper - they miss out a (the) vital ingredient.

Mclaren is ageing nicely - looking quite handsome there. But it has the wrong engine and stupid doors (I guess the spider is the one to get then) - a st sounding turbo engine for 200k? For that money it has to engine perfection.

Would love a go in either of those cars. Would have to be a Mclaren for me.

I'm a fan of the 12C but in that colour and with the dodgy roofline of the convertible when closed it just looks minging. I'll take a hardtop in dark grey thanks.

I'm a bit surprised about the comments of turbo lag in the 12C, I've been in a 996 Turbo S and that seemed to pull hard and instantaneously on the throttle, the lag was the smallest I've ever felt in a turbocharged car. I know that it is a 3.8L making 450bhp, and the McLaren is a 3.8L engine making a lot more, but I thought with all the extra time and technology, they'd have been able to match or better the lag of the now old 996. I imagine the 997 improved on the 996, and the 991 improves on the 997 - or does it? Are Porsche now reaching such big levels of power that bigger boost and more lag is an inevitability to get the figures they need from the car?

F-type R for me please. All these cars perform well above what I need on the road, so i'd want the one looking like the car below. The McLaren is a little drab, and the 911 both drab and ugly in this variation.

I would keep the change and buy a massive fleet of old merc W124s!

Sorry Chris thou your vids are fantastic viewing but i just don't agree on this one ....

The Mclaren weighs in less has more power a very bespoke machine. The tub is carbon and its 60k more expensive just look what other second hand porker your could by with the difference.

You should have picked a Porsche out of Ruff,s stable then the game would have been on ....

Yes the Mclaren is great for what it is but id still have the Porsche ....

Wow what an interesting insightful thread and although I really enjoyed the video as per any Harris VT the Pistonheaders views and comments are to be fair far more amusing...

For a while now I've gone out of my way to not like Porsches. I have failed in that endeavour with this latest turbo, (with that Macan thing too). I think that the Porker is quicker in real world conditions due to its 4WD. (Also the Macca pulled off noticeably before the Porshce in the drag).

Any way I have request. I used to love Top gear when I was younger, and no it's not me growing up - I still love cars and hooning about in them. Today it seems it's a show about who can be the biggest Tw4t. Clarkson and Hammond tie for the honours with May a close second. Back in the day it had the interesting car stuff with enough sarcasm, innuendo and foolishness to keep it light hearted.

Right, here it is;

MR HARRIS. PLEASE GO AND APPLY FOR A JOB ON TOP GEAR, DO IT NOW, THAT'S AN ORDER !!!

You are our only hope now for a proper mototring show.

One small detail. The Porsche has by far and away the stupidest DRL's of any car on sale today IMO. They could've done something a bit more creative than an LED in the corner of each circular headlight. Even when written that sounds fking retarded so how was it ever allowed to go beyond the ideas part of development??

I also don't understand the comparison, more expensive sports car is faster than cheaper one.

As Chris said/hinted at, point to point the turbo would beat the 12C hands down. I am of that opinion too.

There is no denying for me the 911 is a supercar with that sort of performance on offer and technology. Although the lines have been blurred between super and sports car! As for the 12C, what a machine! Love it and glad its getting so much praise.

Great vid..... lovely cars...

Taking the price difference, the Porsche easily looked the better car.

Although, I have not looked at the 991 in any detail, IMV the build quality of the 12C is underwhelming - the carbon looks very average and the quality of components is nowhere near a 458. Build in the significantly higher running costs (e.g. the interval for replacement cats), then the Porsche seems to be a no-brainer...

That said, the 12C does have a little Ron love on it, which has to be worth it
