I do think finance has been the difference. The company next door to mine is full of 20-somethings and it seems they'd rather own an Audi or Mercedes (in white, natch) with the smallest diesel engine to give the perception of being as rich as them folk in Chelsea these days. Is that any worse than when i used to have the loudest exhaust possible on my slammed Clio to attract all the fanny in town??
No. It's a lot better to have a white, 316d M-Sport than chlamydia and a st exhaust.

They then finance their wheels, airride, paint and interior modifications.

Why did they die out?
Still a pretty big scene about if you know where to look. I've got 3 cars of various stages of modification myself.
I remember a kid in my class 15 years ago. His mum pulled up outside the school gates in a Polo Harlequin and everyone burst out laughing.

Was quite a posh school so most just thought in was a old banger with odd parts from the scrappy.

Haven't seen a tarted up Corsa for donkeys

there's also a fair bit of modding in the UK American car scene.

Mine - not a lot has been done, but enough to make it 'individual' (just like the other million+ Mustangs! lol)

standard

Would be much better without the crap plate , IMHO .

Was following a modified BMW "stanced" yesturday....e36 estate. Wierdly it had a ton of negative camber on the front wheels, but the back ones were OEM and in OEM camber....straight. Looked fking wierd.
Stability when going sideways, You can tell that car gets used properly.

being young and broke i think explains it all. i want to modify my car but insurance can easily double/triple just at the mention of a modification and i cant bring myself to spend £1500 on an exhaust remap for a car that cost me that. i'd rather save up and get something better out of the box.

Still plenty of it NI. Maybe not to the extent of the Max Power days, but plenty nonetheless, old and young.
