Utterly retarded. Instead of posting and pontificating about what might happen just go to the garage and pay up.
lots of people seem to confuse pontificate and procrastinate.
True, but it's not really worth sitting and thinking about it too much is it, though? wink

Ha ha so you've accidentally forgot to pay for £10 of fuel nearly ONE MONTH ago and yet surely you have filled up since then if you only used a tenner, surely that prompted your mind?

Is this thread really reflective of the amount of help and advice one can now expect from PH? because many of the replies have been utterly appalling.

He's pretty much received either highly condescending posts or flatly been insulted, over a small amount of fuel that he has already tried to pay but was unable to.

Should we give the guy some advice based on the further details given in the tread? Maybe Dicuss the best way of dealing with debt recovery firms? Or perhaps share a few light hearted stories about something similar happening? Nah. Let's just read a couple of posts, pick on one or two points then jump to insulting the guy and call it quits.

if just went and paid for it, they could hardly prosecute you. I suspect what you really wanted out of this thread is to be reassured that you didn't have to pay for it. Not fking cool.

Whilst it may not be any sort of defence, I'm quite capable of forgetting something like that for up to 6 months. At which point it'll randomly pop back out of my brain just to cause a panic attack.

It's not general poor memory, I can remember exact conversations from 20 years ago, it's just my natural mental disorganisation. I missed my own birthday once.

This is why I now have a smart phone with a 'to do' list permanently on the front screen. You know 'breath in.. breath out...' that kind of stuff wink

Quite a while ago, I put about £60 of fuel in the car and found I didn't have my wallet on me. I offered to walk home and get it as it would've only taken me 15 minutes on foot, but they said I could drive if I left my mobile with them. There was an awkward silence as I handed over my very tatty 5 year old Nokia 3330 complete with cracked screen.

Not the end of the world. Im forever leaving my wallet at home/in the missus' bag/in her car. Probably filled a books worth of the 'sorry ill come back and pay later' forms out on my own.

It is just common courtesy to go back and pay the same day though. How did you forgot about it when you get a carbon copy of the form given to you?

Payed...

Got a receipt, although the receipt is dated 14/06/2015, the actual transaction was found using his EPOS system and found it from the 21st May.

I'm not too shocked at the replies on PH tbh, as I usually take part in roasting the OP in such cases anyway, I'm more concerned that everyone has perfect memory lmao!

Make sure the debt recovery agents know this is settled too. I thought payment usually went to them once it was passed on but maybe there's a week before. As it's been more than a week hopefully they haven't moved on to the next stage or it may not be over yet. And don't rely on the garage informing them.

It's paid by the way.

I do believe you forgot though. Smoking wacky baccy can really affect your short term memory.

Its becoming more common on here.

On a couple of threads I started, I got told my son was probably smoking drugs, and that my wife was probably cheating on me. The posters were serious as well!

The subjects for the threads were a speeding ticket, and an item clothing that was damaged.

Yup. Such awesomeness and infallibility and yet such st cars. It doesn't add up. biggrin

OP only mistake you made was making your initial error public on PH sadly.

The receipt would be dated 14/6 because that was when the money was received. Receipt, Received, see the common root of the words?

It's not a question of memory, I think it's a question of guilt - my memory is fairly poor, but if I have a debt hanging over my head, even I can't remember it, there is a nagging anxiousness at the back of my mind. You forgot it and didn't give it a second thought because you deemed it unimportant. That's fair enough, you're not a worrier, good for you, but it's that lack of caring about money you owed that I believe is why most posters are giving you a hard time.

I cannot say that in the 16 years I have been driving, that I have ever once turned up to a petrol station without a means to pay. I never leave home without my wallet. I just thought this was normal?
I did it once - I had my wallet but it didn't have my card and I don't carry a lot of cash in it - bloody internet shopping!!!

I was given 7 days to pay with a note and I went home got the card and went back and paid 30 mins later.

Most embarrassing thing was providing all your details with a queue of people behind you - none of which were there when I went back and paid.

It does happen, I forgot to pay at a self-service checkout yesterday (other things on my mind at the time).

People (females?) forget their cards at the Chip and PIN machines/points too...
