RE: BMW 5 Series: Review
Discussion

My interest in BMW's and cars generally is on a distinctly downward slide. Owning and daily driving an E39 525i with a manual is great. When I can't be arsed changing gear I generally don't have to, granted it is on country roads. How long will the 3/4 series be available with a manual? I'm going to have to find a new interest.
They make cars that new buyers want, not for who's driving them 15 years down the road. The market clearly wants auto, if they thought it would be profitable to offer a manual I'm sure they would.

Oh how snowflake of you. Just because it's your opinion doesn't mean you're right. Tell me what would happen if you tried changing lanes without indicating during driving test?
My driving instructor told me (granted, this was 15 years ago) that indicating was not required when returning to the left lane of a dual carriage way, following an overtake. Completed the same manoeuvre on the test with no mention of it on the results sheet. If someone will benefit from the information, then you indicate.
If nobody will benefit, then you should not.
Flashing your lights at nobody just shows you aren't aware of who and what is around you.

I had the misfortune of running round in a company F10 520d manual for a month. I wouldn't wish it on anyone. If nothing else the awful position of the shifter meant there was no room for the cup holders so BMW removed them!
They are tucked away under a flap in front of the gear shifter.Perfect for a takeaway coffee on the road.
Launched in diesel only?
When governments are legislating against diesels because of nitrous oxides?
When increasing numbers of major cities are banning diesels from their centres due to said pollutants?
When other marques are reducing budgets for diesels and increasing for petrol accordingly?
Get with the times BMW. Launch should be petrol only.

But current BMW diesel range Euro 6 accredited so not impacted by toxicity charge? It's pre Euro 4 diesels where the real issue is and these are going to get hammered, along with older petrols. When governments are legislating against diesels because of nitrous oxides?

That's the middle lane then. Not the left lane.

Can you show me where in HC does it say that you should only indicate if you feel like someone will benefit from the information. If someone will benefit from the information, then you indicate.

I'm assuming that little troll thing is aimed at me coolhands. a) is that your usual tactic when you run out of arguments? b) I'm going to have a guess that the reason why your sister was annoyed by having the lane departure warning is because she's too important to indicate at all, otherwise she wouldn't find flicking the left stalk every now and then such a chore.
EDIT If you want to see how good drivers drive on motorways watch this https://youtu.be/4L-7leSE_ks?t=5m20s - the guy drives for living and his driving is spectacularly, incredibly amazing and flawless.

BMW app is marketed heavily and if it all worked as it should it would be great.
However this isn't the case and of the two years I've owned my F10 520d with pro-nav the connected app only worked as it should for the first 4 months. The most recent update in Jan 17 has stopped connecting to my car altogether. BMW's response through the dealer (who confided that they'd had lots of complaints from customers) was "be patient" - newsflash: Software needs to be tested and checked before release or you lose credibility as a technological tour de force.
Don't buy a BMW on the basis of the promised 'Connectivity' because it's just not there & BMW really don't seem to care.

Why would you want to send a message to someone who is not there?
If you are indicating because you think there is nobody there but you might have made a mistake, then you havent done your obs properly and so should not be changing lane at all.
Do you say hello upon entering an empty room?

It's just not nice looking is it?
I know it's 'olden days' now but when the E39 came out....i found it such a good looking car! Still do, in a way.
This....just looks huge, slab sided and a bit too flaired-nostrilness.
I thought the E39 was a step back from the late E34 tbh - a 5 Series that had eaten too many pies. I know it's 'olden days' now but when the E39 came out....i found it such a good looking car! Still do, in a way.

Good looking but not really a step forward like the E36 was over the E30.
