blah blah blah, penis fencing, blah blah blah.

Seriously guys, no conclusive proof either way as to whether it was faked or not- just a lot of opinion... (I know, when it comes to forum users versus anything- we all know that opinion is cold hard fact :P )

Until we A) all have GT-R's AND Porsches in our garages and B) have taken them both to the ring and C) can drive like gods, can we just give it a rest? Speculation does nothing more than make us all look like idiots on this forum.

And let's all be honest; who really cares about ring times anyway? It's not like the majority of us are actually going to ever be able to get anywhere close to the manufacturer posted times- and that's what counts when you actually own one of the cars in question.

I've got £30k worth of lotus elise that would murder the pair of 'em but so what!!
Its all marketing bks anyway and is pretty irrelevant to someone purchasing what are ultimately just 'lard arsed' road cars.
I have a 310hp elise and I am not sure it would 'murder' them both at the ring .... its a strange place.

That's got to be a pretty special elise to do sub 7.30 at the ring. They're pretty fast lard arsed cars! Obviously a proper track special like the Radical is much, much faster though.

Its weird but doesnt the SR8 lap time equate to about 2-3 seconds a mile quicker than the cars mentioned in this article. Its not that much of a difference really considering you can go shopping and take the kids to school etc in the GTR.

Had a Plums and Custard Lancia Beta '75 saloon which did a 7:15 at the Ring in 2004. That was 7hrs 15mns by the way, but christ it felt fast. I think it had something to do with the chassis "rust problem" which eventually munched the car..on the way round.

Disappointing. I was expecting Nissan to buy a 911, thrash the nuts out if it round the ring and only be able to get a quarter of an hour lap time.

....at the end of the day it's only a bloody Nissan and for that reason alone it will never ever compete with a 911 for my affections...

Just my opinion, but having seen a GT-R in the flesh I can honestly say the whole thing left me cold, no matter how hot it is around the 'Ring.

So it's a Nissan GT-S versus Porsche Carrera 4-R?

No, wait, a Porsche GTS vs. the almighty Nissan Patrol GR

And the challange was the Nürburg-thing.

About that, a ~10% time difference unless my maths is wrong. Shows how fast the GTR and the Porsche are really!

WTDOOM what a surprise your a porsche man, yes cars have a heirachy but and its a considerable but the original Cayman was designed to have a limited slip diff untill it proved to be quicker with the smaller engine so they downgraded and have blocked dealers or performance packs offering an upgraded diff now how many manufacturers do that even BMW as you say allow you to upgrade parts to a degree, and the 320i is not sold as a performance car. Goes to show Nissan really are going to piss on you porsche boys, and your mega money cars are gonna be looking up a Datsun exhaust I truly love Porsches but your arrogance and defensiveness is embarrassing.

PS heres one to make you cry before the current rebuild at 350bhp my Track Nissan Pulsar GTIR costing just £5,500:00 ate a 997 GT3 RS and a 996 turbo on a track day, goes to show Nissans like to Pawn on Porsche

This is an interesting thread to read. Am impressed by all these scientific analysis.

So let me give you my 5 pence worth

I am a Porsche owner and the reason I am now driving my second Porsche is the following : my first one was a Boxster 2.5, I drove 360.000 km in it, smiling and enjoying every single kilometer of it. The car never let me down, nothing ever failed on this car. And the service I got from my dealer was perfect.

Now I am past the first 125.000 km of a 996 C2 Cab, still smiling and enjoying this car. As with my Boxster also this car has never let me down. And the service at my dealer is still perfect.

I couldn't care less if this Nissan or any other car is faster or slower than my car, I am enjoying my Porsche and I know it will never let me down.

Have you ever stopped and thought that they might be awful drivers or arent interested in 'racing' on a public trackday and are there for some fun ? If I use your logic, I absolutely toasted a Carrera GT at the 'ring last year in my 7 year old BMW 525, proves BMW love to pawn Porsches .....

Porsche still has the GT-R, they should issue a challenge to Nissan to fly their driver out to Germany and run the ring in the car they have. If they can duplicate the time, Porsche admits it and apologizes.

Bet Nissan would find an excuse not to...
What a load of old Cock! How on earth do you Know Nissan "would find an excuse not to"? Until that offer is made and Nissan refuse i'd keep away from mind reading if i were you..

Bottom line on this is that Porsche started this pointless debate and since Nissan were accused i completely understand them defending themselves.

Nissan seem to be pretty straightforward with their response so i don't think there was any fibbing going on.

what about all the independent tests where the GTR was quicker? do i need to start digging them up for you? The point is Porsche cared about the ring times enough to call Nissan liars..that's what the article is about..so would people stop saying who cares about ring times obviously Porsche and Nissan do ffs
