Shared components???

The main reason you dont find people like Vauxhall and Ford doing it is that off the shelf parts dont fit the "design language". for a super/hyper/ubercar manufacturer, its not as much of an issue, there language is QUICK, not fluid or kenetic or whatever other stupid buzzwords are out there now.
Im waiting to see Kia Picanto lights on a supercar now! Its going to happen!
The Fords n GMs (etc) just share all the inside bits that folks can't take pics of and say that part is from that car etc. (just like here!)Im waiting to see Kia Picanto lights on a supercar now! Its going to happen!
They launch a 'new' model. Set a budget for how much to spend on new parts (new expensive tooling) retooling assy plant etc the rest can be old parts just up the production. The new bits are always headlights, bonnet, front wings, rear lights etc, stuff that is immediately noticable by joe public. Which actually leaves not very much new!
My father-in-law used to rattle on about engines, loads of different cars have the same engine, but just put a different lid on the top.

Designing the lights isn't expensive, making sure they are Type Approved is. Certainly prohibitive and a pointless expense for a low volume seller.
I'm guessing some of TVr's later designs are a way of getting around that possibly using some smaller generic lights with a more unusual cover? To be honest, using full clusters does seem a bit lazy, I'd imagine there would be a way of creating something different with existing parts.
The reason so many smaller injection molded parts are shared is beacause of the insane cost to produce the tooling and molds for a part that is easily bought off the shelf.
Molds can cost 5 figures each to make.

I've looked into this a bit previously. They're the same family (MB 722.6/W5A580, Chrysler NAG1) ) but the SLR has a W5A900 (for 900 nM), not a version of a W5A580. The W5A900 is from the Maybach and apparently has a different bell housing, case, valve body, control system etc. The newer ones (722, 62 etc.) supposedly have a W5A1000 which has further differences.
The 997 Turbo Tiptronic also has a variant of the W5A580.

They're from Renault according to a C&SC article on the Virage from 2001.
I was going to suggest they give the sub-editor some overtime on your articles, but it actually says: Article said:
While we're at it, let's admit to the VW Scirocco tail lights - and I'm sure if you peered at the back of the headlights you'd find "Renault" plastic-welded into the back of the bins
Which doesn't change the fact that they're from an Audi 200.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
