I have an Accel sticker on my lawn mower.

It has neither an Accel coil, distributor or plug wires, so I'm guilty too.

As a result, my lowly Briggs and Stratton is often mistaken for a Suffolk Punch.

I was going to ask if anybody had re-badged a Bentley. Has anybody seen a Chrysler (or VW) badged Bentley yet?

Actually I quite like the 300C for what it is. It's a big, flash and vaguely stupid American car. Putting a different badge completely spoils the effect.

BTW is the diesel really that bad?

Why are the people who do this to their cars being slated for having different taste? Taste is unique, and part of what makes us individuals. I think they look fugly, as well as being bad cars, and would not do this myself, but can see the appeal. You want a Bentley but only have £10-20k to spend... buy a 300C. Also doesnt handle and has a huge V8.

10k-20k on something like a Bentley, how about a Bentley http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1282748.htm

I wonder if any of the scum community has keyed a grilled and badged 300C thinking it's a real Bentley?

That's all you need, an ordinary car where you have to be careful where you park.

Thinking about it, a fake RR grille would be even more profitable. Probably easier to make too as it could be made from straight bits of wood sprayed silver.

A Barbi doll sprayed gold could stand in for the Spirit of Ecstasy...

So a choice of a 15 year old car with so many miles the dealer won't advertise the mileage or:

Be realistic. If one is going to buy a "cheap" Bentley to use as a daily car it'll have to be an Arnage, the older ones are simply not as reliable. Unless you want an early model with the less than perfect BMW lump in it you'll be spending £30k++

So for those looking for a car circa £10k, with Bentleyesque looks; a 300C seems to fit the bill.

Very common around here, except they also sport 22"+ wheels.

I've love to point out which minority exploits this, but I'd be branded a racist.
Rednecks? People of Chinese descent? Gays?

I'm right in one of those, right?
Nope, black people. smile

Rednecks usually drive pickups, Asian people (Chinese, Japanese, etc.) tend to drive Asian cars (supposed to be easier to drive, at least what I've heard often), and gays drive Miatas biggrin

22" wheels? What kind of tool would have 22" wheels on our piss poor road surfaces with rubber bands for tyres.
The same fool that drives a Caterham/Ferrari every day?

I'm not defending 22" wheels, but dismissing them because they give bad ride quality?
How about just keeping it to bad taste.

O/T but I saw a mobility scooter being piloted by a little grey haired old lady the other morning.

I would guess her grandson has a sense of humour because it had a full ricer shopping list on it.

Made me smile, anyway.

Just saw this in the trader:

So 9K for a 42,000 mile fully loaded 5.7 V8 monster like that! Looks like an absolute bargain. I remember when it was on top gear, and Jeremy Clarkson slated it, thinking I like that plenty.

It looks great, has a great big fat engine, seems quick enough, reasonable mpg, fabulous interior.......why the downer?

Prefer the grille on this one, to the Bentley one.
Funny though isn't it that in another episode where he tests it while may drives a monaro vxr, he raves about how good it is and what fantastic value it is.

Yeah, he's a strange lad that one. Also, the road test was not really a good one - how many 300C owners will be hooning round a beach against sports coupes?

However, as a mafia staff car, which it clearly appears to be based on, It seems perfect for the job. Fast, imposing, looks good with a nice interior. It will not have pin sharp handling as it is so big, but I bet you can still have a lot of fun in it. Overtaking traffic in a car the size of a transit has to be a laugh, surely!

The basic platform is 1995 E class, the suspension is 1997 S class and the gearbox was phased out of the Merc range in 2003.

If you have have a dig around in my profile, you can go and find my review of the 300c touring I suffered a while ago. To sum it up. Horrible handling, terrible gearbox, decent diesel and low rent interior.

I understand that if people want that shape of car they will buy it. I even understand them replacing the potato chipper chrysler put on the front as standard. I do not, nor will ever understand why these people feel that the 300c is a good car.

My mother summed it up perfectly when she saw the one I had to drive: "Thats not a car, its a penis extension"
