Im no fan of Top Gear but it was not over impressive on the test track. the tyres were screaming for mercy as i recall and if the drag race between the Bugatti and the F1 had been over 1/4 mile as is the norm it would have been a complete miss match in the F1s favour. the bugatti only pulled ahead when its higher top speed came into play

the interior looks good.

Not £1million++ good though, in my opinion.
In some I found things overdone? in this case its ok me thinks...
also overdone is say cars like Pagani with the Zonda its a mess and way to bling, like this example>

yikes...to much bling etc

Wasn't overly impressive? What would have been impressive?

Tyres screaming for mercy? On the limit of grip?! Never...

While I agree that "best" is subjective, I keep asking myself - what other car has the same breadth and depth of ability as the Veyron?

I honestly can't come up with a definitive answer, and that's coming from someone who neither loves nor hates the Veyron.
But one could argue that's exactly why it's not the best. Personally I don't like them. Whilst I can respect the engineering achievements of packaging 1000bhp+ in a car that can pass VAGs endurance tests, its jack of all trades persona is the reason it doesn't appeal.

Personally I'd rather have something like a T1 for my performance kicks and something like an Aston or Bentley (and not the VAG version) for my continental cruising.

One word "Ultima" it might not have been official but we all know it has gone around there faster than anything else by a long margin and at a fraction of the price

You see, that is where the comparisons are getting silly. The Veyron is the equivalent of Hugh Hefner's slippers, and a space shuttle. Performance AND luxury. The veyron caters for one of those variables, and the Bentley the other. the Veyron caters for both. It's expensive, but then again a lot of things are.

I think that is the problem i have with it in that it is not really a sportscar nor is it a luxury limo. to me its kind of souless neither fish nor fowl as they say. im not saying its a bad car just not my type of thing even if i had the money to spend on one

It may cater for both but it isn't fantatstic at either. It's not specific enough.

Ah, so you want it to be uber sporty, or uber comfy, but it can't be both? Have you driven it? Which does the fiat cover? Both, one of them, or neither?

Yep, it seems every thread does this now.

XJ220 for i'm afraid, It feels like just what it is. A car dreamed up in a board meeting, it's got the biggest engine, most turbo's, most cylinders. and it only follows it will be fastest. Impressively engineered no doubt but for me it's got something missing.

Crappy engineering? Flakey build quality? Lack of development? Being built in a shed by men in boiler suits? An outsourced V8 engine? The ability to go more than a few K without falling apart?

You see, because the Veyron doesn't do any of the above, it has no soul or character. Therefore it's shyte. Simple really.

Ain't PH great?
