Did Princess Diana actually ever "own" the car though? Or was it just loaned to her by Ford hence here not appearing on the reg document?

The different reg numbers are surely accounted for by it being re-registered when it was returned to Ford.
I hadn't thought of that. If that is the case and the car was re-registered, surely Ford would have changed the glass, non?
You reckon? smile

I don't think they'd bother at all

Not got any close up pics but it has the same reg as when Diana drove it (There is the famous shot of her getting out of it back in 1985 shows the same reg)

I've got £2.76 and a couple of Waitrose tokens.Would that buy it ? On a serious note is there a press pic of Diana (R.I.P) actually driving it ?

Nolar Dog had at least 3 of these, so I can't see this one being worth that much.

£500 is the best I can do mate, No one wants these anymore. And the wheels are all scuffed and that Harrods air freshener really doesn't suit the car, Neither does the Guide to Paris tunnel runs Handbook in the boot.
I loled.

What I don't get with Chaz is how on the one hand he obviously has a thing for cars with a bit of "go"...but on the other he seems to (we are led to believe) enjoy tree-hugging and quite literally communing with plants.

Come on HRH you can't have it both ways.
Of course you can.

Maybe not the talking to plants bit.

Interestingly Dan, the window glass was non-original and has the reg of a different car in the bottom left corner.

Have you got any pictures that show the drivers window from close up?
Erm this is even more confusing now found pictures of (apparantly the same car but reg was C515DYT) this comes up as no trace on DVLAconfused and also on the RSOC forum there is another black S1 RST reg no C973HAR
According to the owners club there may have been five black S1 RST's but only one "Factory" black car (Diana's) the other four where originally white and then resprayed black

There were never 5 black cars.there were 2.One was B444AAR the othe C462FHK.C462FHK then became C515DYT in an attempt to hide the identification of the previous owner,Di.

The car now sits back on it's original plate.

The B reg one is owned by a registrar of the RSOC.

Anything else you need to know can be found in the links i've posted already although you may have to sign up to see the info.

A bloke I worked with won one in a competition in the Sun when they first came out.

It cost him £1.

I think that is the reg that was on the windows (C515 DYT) which would explain the mismatch between plate and glass

The 'Princess Di' black S1 RST was also a prize in a Kiss 100 radio competition after it was returned to Ford

Well this thread takes me back to the mid 90's.....
I was working in Royston, Hertfordshire just after finishing Uni. I got to know a young man who was a friend of someone I worked with at the time. He often drove a black RS turbo (I think it belonged to his Mam). I was drooling over it one day and can clearly remember him telling me that it used to belong to Diana. At the time, I took that statement with a pinch of salt. Maybe he was telling me the truth after all.....

These 26 year old number plates were taken from the only black RST manufactured according to Ford's Motorsport Division. I have just found them in my garage.
I purchased the car from a Ford dealership in Saltash Cornwall after it had come from Fords Motorsport dept knowing that it had been supplied by them for a VIP. I wrote to Ford who replied that the vehicle had been provided for a very special person. We know that Di had the car and there were some photographs published with her and her bodyguard that cemented the providence. The clearly visible B444AAR depicted the car outside Harrods if my memory serves.
I stupidly (not knowing at the time) changed the plates to 604RYC my private plates at that time.
I cannot remember if I did etch the windows of the car back then.
It was a difficuilt car to tune and ended up at a local garage who raced cars. They installed flat-style race plugs to cure some of the inherent idling problems with it.
I sold the car to a mate who one weekend took it to Liverpool and it was badly vandalised.
I dont know what he did with it afterwards, or whether he repaird it.
The car did have many strange drill-holes where police surveilance systems were screwed in and again if my memory serves me had the RS seats. I do have a photograph of the car taken back in 1986/87.
Who would have known all these years later that the car would have so much interest!
I hope this short missive provides some of the missing links. I was the 1st registered owner/keeper of the car.
