Dont the K20 swapped minis have to have large arches due to the wheels sticking out so far?

If so I dont think it counts.

I'm a petrolhead and I didn't spot slightly wider arches than a 1275 Cooper S, your average Joe won't think it's any different either. I think people have picked holes in 99% of the cars posted, and there have been a reasonable number of sleepers (inc the Mini).

A SAAB/BMW/Mercedes or Skyline aren't sleepers. A VTEC engines Mini is, even though the arches are 3.2456mm wider! Christ I've been dragged in to the debate now rolleyes

Oh is it really a small difference? I thought they were a fair deal wider as people talk about having to modify them when the K20 swaps come up. If it is barely anything then yeh I agree its a sleeper.

Well that one doesn't look too wide. I have seen a few that look silly though!

I didnt even realise you could fit a K20 in the front of a Mini! I've seen many D16/B16/B18 swaps but never a K20 in the front, that's mega!!

Now here's a real sleeper

Sierra mk1 estate base model look like a 1.6

But in fact it's Cosworth powered with 550 bhp.

I love it, it may fool non petrolheads but to a car person they will smell a rat, nobody saved early Sierra Estates in brown, XR4i's and Cosworths, so unless it is a painter and decorator in some kind of Brushstrokes/Life on Mars mash up who still has one, it stands out, its lower than standard, the wheels are non standard so my sleeper-ometer would be twitching in that case.

Its a 33 year old car, you can go a year nowadays without seeing a Sierra in the wild.

Not saying it isnt a sleeper, it is, it just loses some element of surprise due to its age and rarity.

550 bhp in a Mk3 Mondeo would blend in better.

Anyway appreciate am being a bit pedantic, would be fantastic fun, assuming they have sorted the handling, Sierras werent exactly what you would call fun as standard, lollop, lollop, understeer, breifly spin inside wheel.

To be fair, the vast number of "fast car owners" these days have never seen one as they are so young. They may know about Cossies, but this would slip the net I think.

Tyres are the tricky thing to disguise, no point having 550 horses and bog standard Sierra rubber. Think they've done a reasonable job with the dark wheels and a 30 yr old Sierra would probably have sagging aka lowered suspension.

Think you might be overthinking the Sierra a bit. I have to admit if I'm driving along and see an old car I dont suddenly become suspicious its a sleeper.

Anyway how about this for a modern take, 500bhp 4x4 Transit Connect, yes it had alloys but loads of them do so it wouldnt make me think it was about to kick ass. Side exit exhaust might if I even noticed it, you wouldnt from behind

Yeah, you are right, suppose you do notice when it starts pulling away quickly but by then the game is up, it has done its job and you have been sleepered !

That van is awesome, just looks like your average mobile valeters van, some big alloys but would still expect it to be slow.

I do want to own a proper sleeper at some point, nearest I got recently was giving a Jag F type a bit of a shock when he decided to show me how much faster his Jag was, it wasnt, he even slowed down, let me past seemingly to see what it said on the back, suppose most silver CLS's are 320 CDI's which are decently quick but mine is quite a good chunk quicker (11 ish vs 19 ish to 100 mph), enough to stick with an F Type (think it was an S)

Cool, big power, looks standard, non premium and standard versions arent generally rapid (I know there is a 280 bhp one) but usually company cars or airport taxis, very common on the roads and not normally a modification target, pretty high sleeper rating.
Colour me surprised! After just reading the rest of this thread I thought this would be shot down for sure.
