popopbanbangs 996 C4 - sweet spec, 300k miles!
Helps if you can / have access to people that know what they're doing.

Are these latest ones based on a Mk7 platform, or do they lag behind like the Golf Convertibles of yore?
Thought I'd post up, since I read up on these a while ago, and may be useful to the person looking. If I remember correctly, yes, that's why they're cheaper - they are based on the old platform (much like the Scirocco was as well). The Golf hatch is normally 1 generation ahead of both of those.Justayellowbadge said:
Who's at FOS this year?
I have just returned from a trip oop north and coincided that with a day at Cholmondeley Pageant of Power which was utterly fantastic, very similar to how the FoS was 10/15 years ago. I may well do the FoS on the Thursday as I did last year as I got to see all I would want to see on the normal (weekend) days but without the crowding.

I think this might possibly be the answer to that question from a few pages back. It looks devastating. I knew a chap with a Jag S type R which had blues and twos for organ transport work... that sounded like an enjoyable job and a great seat to be in to do it.popopbanbangs 996 C4 - sweet spec, 300k miles!

And just to rub our respective 9-5, wife, 2.4 kids, mortgage'd noses in it even more:
I think I want to have his babies. In the 996.

Some more random pictures I have dug out, no particular order just gives a little more insight into the cars life:
1170 miles, that's not dirt up the rear near the lights.... that's brake dust. Hence going to larger rears.

My recently painted 4200 , had it for 4 months , love it but always wanted a Quattroporte , funds weren't there hence the 4200 , funds now there so I put it up for sale, guy came to view it and everything about me wanted him to say no but as he'd come 100 miles I let him look round it.
Thankfully he bought a Monaro instead , I paid a deposit on a grand Cherokee lease that afternoon thanks to the lease deal thread so now it's staying

That pic does show up some of the beautiful curves on the 996 doesn't it? poppopbangbang said:

I keep saying that the engine issues are going to leave me eating dried noodles for the rest of my days.
I keep convincing myself I can't fit a dog in the back for trips to the pub.
I keep convincing myself that what I really want is a Jag XK-R or an M3 or an M5 Touring or something.
Then I read that and go all the way back to square one and want to sod it all and throw caution to the wind and buy one. With ambers and hard-back seats and multi-spoke wheels and a manual gearbox and I want to travel all the way to Italy and all the way back again just because.

Speaking of black Fezzas, this didn't sell at the weekend. I can still remember the news reports with "disgraced" athlete Ben Johnson driving out of his house in one back in '88, and thinking how unbelievably cool it was : http://www.historics.co.uk/buying/auctions/2016-06...
