Was that a massive crack on the F1 tyre? Not sure I'd have been driving it at all if it was!

Stunning vid.
I saw that - it did look like it would explode if exerted!

Excellent vid - he didn’t mention the fan until about 60% through. I hate the look of the rear because of the fan.

Is there a way to put the Cosworth engine into the F1? Just thinking out loud…
I watched it back a couple times. I think it’s an optical
illusion. I think it’s actually some mould flashing left over from manufacture.

Anything can be done with enough effort, Lanzante does some crazy stuff but I think you would need to be a real maverick with such wealth that you really did not care to go that far in modifying an £20m+ F1, far better to buy a £3m T50 for the modern chassis etc and get someone to delete the fan.

Not sure why you would want to remove the F1 engine, it is probably one of the best ever road car engines ever produced.

Stevens is generally under-appreciated, especially for the F1. It isn’t so much the form and stance (great though those are); for me, the mastery of using shut lines to accentuate the shape, and a resistance to suggestions of bling, stands in direct contrast to the T50 which - in photographs, at least - seems to lack the last few percentage of “taughtness” Stevens brought to the F1. The F1 looks like the result of a *collaboration* between engineer and stylist; T50 looks to me as though the engineer had the upper hand.

But times - and tastes - change. T50 is definitely a refined, elegant and underrated masterpiece when compared to many of its peers!

In person, the inference is the opposite - F1 looks 'pure engineering' with t.50 being more styled.

Otherwise, completely agree.

Its an oldie but a goodie!

Peter Stevens talks about the Harrods GTR

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6MklQ5m9zig

Harrods car had loads of little details over the other GTRs including different windscreen and a super trick gurney flap!

For Flemke

Have you received your car back from MSO now?

I guess thats the problem when you cant get tyres very easily and you're a bit stuck somewhere!

Always admired that Flemke with his bigger wheels, (and now the T50) run tyres that are easy to get from a multitude of tyre companies

Sorry, just saw this.
No, the car is still at MSO. We are (as far as I know, still) awaiting delivery of a certain spare part which is quite mundane but in its precise dimensions is unique to the F1. I could have had it made up myself in literally a few days, but McLaren want to use parts from their established suppliers, so I'm going with their way of doing things.
The part should be arriving this week.

One for the historians.

I recently stumbled across a YouTube video of Tiff Needell returning to try out a F1 for a second time. I've no idea how long ago it was recorded but the cars' registration was 13 MAC. Out of nosiness I ran a check to see if it was still on the car but it now comes back as an electric MINI!

My question is, was it the genuine plate on the F1 at the time of filming and the car has moved on or was it a 'show' plate?

TIA

Real plate a the time, although it's now registered as F1 TOO, and still with the original owner according to this

Don't have to apologise beer

I'm sure that every visit to MSO for the car is slightly different in work being carried out, but what sort of time frames is the car with them? Do you always expect a minimum of a week for them to have the car? Or are you normally expecting the car to be away for 4-6 weeks at a time? What's the longest time it's been somewhere waiting for parts or having work carried out?

(I'll assume you have use of at least 1 other car so its rarely critical time wise to have the car back.)

That site is slightly wrong, the car is not "LM" spec. Just has the High downforce kit.

Murray Walker also drove the same car

To anyone who may know. Many years ago I peered in the Hyde Park window at the Silver car, 065, that sat there for a long time. It was sold in 2008, (Google says a bargain of £2.5Million) but is it hidden away in a collection or has it been seen out and about in the USA since then? (apparently the buyer lives there) Be a shame for it to just stay with its sub 1000km odometer forever.

That article says that his car was changed to LM-spec. Only two cars were changed to LM-spec, and his car was not one of them. Several cars have had the high-downforce kit added, but that is not the same thing.

For a normal service, a car is usually with them for 2-3 weeks. It something is an 'emergency', however, they can be very accommodating and solve a problem quickly.
The longest my car has been at MSO for a service was about 11 months. It went to MSO in early 2020, then we had lockdown, and they could not finish the work until I think it was December of that year.

Re the Park Lane car, it sold for £1m. Ron offered it for that price when the typical car was going for £850-900k, and he would not budge. At the time it was a very optimistic price and the car stayed on the market for nearly a year, until the market came to it, so to speak.

There are quite few cars that still have de minimis mileage on them. Unfortunately, as with any car that is 25+ years old and has not been driven for ages, in order for them to be usable they require a massive servicing procedure - we're talking months and hundreds of thousands of pounds.
There are also some 'delivery mileage' F1s in which the odometer is not necessarily an accurate reflection of the true mileage, but I shan't go into any detail on that.... whistle

Does the LM engine have anything different to the base engine? Are cams different? Exhaust, cats? Higher compression? Better flowing heads? Where did the extra horsepower came from? The same engine was later rated at 700+ hp in the X5 LM. Did they incorporate an electronic throttle in the X5?

It was indeed the real plate, and it was dark green without the HDK kit on it as well, its also had another plate on it that wasn't F1 TOO as well in the last few years, but can't recall what.

Saw it on my first trip to the Ring with my dad for my 21st back in 2000, he'd already been going for a few years (this was the OTGP in August, when it was absolutely incredible) and he turned to me and said "you'll see some pretty special stuff here." As we pulled up behind the main Grandstand, where the new building is now and where everyone just parked along the road either side, the very first car I saw was that Mclaren with 13 MAC on it, just casually two wheels on the verge.

Funnily enough an hour or two later and we went down to Manthey as a friend of my dads was picking up his Turbo S after some work, and lo and behold, there was another F1, high mirrors, looked a bit like a Pepsi blue, had some gold BBS wheels as well............ wink

Was quite the weekend.

020 was Mid Blue Pearl and wore 13 MAC before its transformation to what it is today, with its HDF kit and 46k+ miles and wearing F1 TOO..

I first saw it nestled between Motor Homes at one of the earlier Goodwood's, and have loved it since then, having the chance to have a good look round it on a few occasions, under the front bonnet and when its engine lid was open etc... I'd buy it in a heartbeat if I had the funds.

As for the 'Pepsi' blue high mirrored F1 being at Manthey wearing BBS wheels, was it at the time it had BBS at the front and different at the back, or all BBS?...

Flemke - do you miss it in the 'Pepsi blue' spec?

Haha - I thought it was dark green - I'll have to dig out my pic of it, was a long time ago!

Flemke's had all BBS when I saw it first, again, I'll have to dig out the pics.
