I have 800 miles to do this weekend - w124 or r129? I'm looking forward to it!
The w124 will click over the 180k mark, but I can use the hardtop on the 500sl on the way and take it off (visiting family) and run about with the soft top over the weekend... Hmm
I'm using my 500SL this weekend for long runs, not taking the hard top, probably the last weekend of decent top down weather for a whileThe w124 will click over the 180k mark, but I can use the hardtop on the 500sl on the way and take it off (visiting family) and run about with the soft top over the weekend... We're taking the SL to the Auvergne this weekend for a week. Soft top only as well....

£4500 but needs a little tlc
Maybe a winter project for someone.

Cloth seats and pre-facelift, not quite there for me. My indie reckons the 220cdi is the best engine on these though in terms of longevity.I went to look at this today, another 220.

Its quite simply as good as new, but trop cher. Quite tempting never the less considering the price new. We won't be buying it because my kids would make a mess of it.
Not sure what the thing on the bonnet is, I suspect something to do with the funeral trade...

The 220CDi probably just feels like it's the most long lived because every hour tolerating it's drone feels like 3 hours. If that car had a proper engine I'd be considering it as a new family bus, but that van powerplant is totally inappropriate for any car claiming to be "premium".I went to look at this today, another 220.

It's actually a dogging thing. Locating lug.http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2015...
(not a difficult manoeuvre. 2 spanners, max).
I'm loving my 211 today, delivered a dining table and 1.6m desk out to a client which it swallowed with ease (dining table strapped to the roof rails) then a run to the recycling centre full of cardboard. What else could do all that for under £10k and (as evidenced a few weekends ago) comfortably run with a Nissan GTR up to approximately 70mph.

I shall be using my S211 on Sunday to collect a cabin bed, wardrobe and 2 small chests of drawers. If I have to make 2 trips I'll be as upset as I'll be surprised. Blown2CV said:

Does anyone with a good Volvo beard know if all that extra wood was from the factory, dealer, or some aftermarket tat? The bit stuck on the glove box in particular has that magpie stick on tat look, like the nasty chrome for the B pillar on S-Type Jaguars.
How very dare you, I'll have you know that's some of Sweden's finest! idiotgap said:

Bugging me that he hasn't put the 6th and 7th seatbelts behind the retainers after folding the seats flat...I went to look at this today, another 220.

Any indication where one might find this ad? Is it petrol by any chance?
Something about this tells me it may be the one.http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2007-MERCEDES-E280-CDI-S...
Very slightly over-budget, but it's purple and has 12 cylinders.
