It's surprising how far people will commute for their choice of career...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-25551393

How far have you had to travel or would you be prepared to travel for?

Any extreme commuters on here?

My 12-mile train commute is positively hellish! hehe

The missus does Glasgow - Aberdeen twice a week which is about 5 hours each time all in before doing any actual work.

Our Chief IT man in my place does London - NYC - Oz at least once a month. That's got to be a bd of a commute?!

130 miles round trip - ~ 2 hours each way at the moment.

I thought it was extreme until I saw that article earlier today!

Do you actually do anything outside of work apart from sleep?

I only live about 3 miles from work but had to take my car into Nottingham this morning to go to the dealer…so glad I don't have to sit in that traffic every day!

Not a great deal, especially after 4 hours a day of a knackered 4 pot diesel strumming away, surprisingly tiring. It's only for 6 months total though, and I'm 3/4 of the way through. Back to a 20 min commute soon enough biggrin

Mum's cousin's daughter (I don't know the exact relation to me) works for Shell and one of her managers lives in Northern France and commutes to London. fk that, I'll take my 13 mile B road run.

I liked the guy who commuted 3 hours each way, because it was as cheap to buy the train ticket as to live in London.

I think I'd get some of my 6 hours travelling back with cheap Travelodges for at least some of the week.

rofl - I wish.

Professional desk pilot. IT. On a graduate program so I go where I'm told for 6 months at a time but 18 months out of 24 are in the same location, this is just a blip - no point in upping sticks and moving to need to come back in such a short time.

Felicia because it's cheap to fuel, fix and insure.

I know a guy who works in Stockholm and commutes five days a week from his home in Copenhagen, that's 650km, one way.

I used to drive to work in Southampton from Yate in Bristol every day, we couldn't move nearer to work as that would have put the wife and daughter out. You get used to it but after a holiday you realise how far it really is. It jsy makes the working day hellish long.

2.5 miles currently (40 minute walk, or 5 minute drive) and soon to be a 1.5 mile walk which I timed will take me about 24 minutes. I simply do not know how people bear doing one hour or more drives EACH WAY to get to and from work on a day. I think I'd have exploded from the stress of it! smile

It definitely makes you more aware of the standard of your driving - and that of others. I don't know how my loud, horrid looking, falling to bits before your eyes car is so invisible but so many people can't seem to be able to see it!
