I will be having 6k land in my bank account in 2 weeks and I will be using this to fund my next car

I have previously owned numerous hot hatches, but my favourite 2 cars have been my scoob and my E30 325

So what do I get next?

Current List

Mazda 6 MPS - But there are only 15 for sale so the choice is less, I do like the thought of Bose and 4wd though

BMW 330Ci, the obvious choice I guess but I am slightly against it for this reason, also finding decent manuals is proving difficult and the cars are older than the mazda, if I could find a decent clubsport I would be tempted

Golf R32 - Again slightly older but 4wd again (albeit haldex) has been a dream car of mine for a number of years, iconic IMO but have never driven one and they dont get a huge amount of love on here

Focus St - FWD but the last time I drove FWD was an old megane coupe so I would imagine things have moved on somewhat, poor MPG

BMW 528 Sport - Am keen but perhaps not a B Road blaster

My criteria are

Needs 4 seats, must be fun, 30+mpg on a 70 Mway Cruise, 2002 at the oldest, reliable, thats about it

Waits for suggestions smile

You missed one of the now obligatory PH answers to these.

Skoda Octavia VRS

Although I'd probably go for the obvious BMW choice, it's obvious for a reason I guess.

Get the Beemer, it's the obvious choice for a reason.

I know I know, something about that R32 itch that might need scratching though.

I think you'll stuggle with 30+MPG in the R32. A few months ago, took one (MK IV) from Loughborough to Solihull, 6th gear 75-80 Mph all the way, trip zero'd at start. Arrived, checked mpg for journey 23.something. I was shocked!

BMW 130i. 265bhp but 30mpg easily on a motorway run. Four useable seats, reasonable boot and Rear wheel drive. Great car, its the perfect all rounder IMO.

Yeah I know, need to test drive one, a hatch does appeal though

Looking at the mpg wiki it seems the focus st and audi s3 can get 30 plus on a run?

The 330i would be my choice, although I don't really see the point in the two-door. A 330i touring would be top of my list.

If you loved your Scoob, what about a more 'mature' version? http://pistonheads.co.uk/sales/2669947.htm

Might struggle on the 30mpg front but definitely reliable, fast enough when compared with the others and more interesting than the ubiquitous BMWs etc

I would get the Mazda 6 MPS, you have said that you have done the Hot Hatches and I think in a couple of months you will be back saying 'that itch has been scrached now what car.'

Just my suggestion. I think it maybe hard to get a good example for £6k. How is insurance for you?

Do it.

I usually get bored of cars after about six months, but I still love my 6. I've had it since last November, and I still look forward to getting into it each morning for the 19 mile commute to work (half motorway, half hoonaway).

~260bhp standard, but you can spend £1k and get ~300bhp if you so choose. On a good run you will get over 30mpg, I'm currently averaging 25mpg with a mix of motorway (mostly at good leptons) and back roads. You will see between 290 miles and 340 miles to a tank, so not a massive variation.

Yes, it's a bit 'Japanese' inside but the Bose is decent as is the flip-up Sat-Nav if you can find one. When fitted with decent tyres the grip is incredible, as you can imagine. When fitted with cheap tyres and encountering a wet t-junction, they can be 'exciting'.

If you're going to view any, let them idle for a few minutes when warm before driving off, and look out for any blue smoke in your rear-view mirror. Apparently there's a design problem with the turbocharger which results in oil building up somewhere when idling and then getting burnt off, but it doesn't apply to all cars. I'm not sure how much of a problem it is, but just be aware.
