We have a baby due in November, and between me and my wife we have a Suzuki Ignis Sport (hers) and a 3 door Mk2 Focus.

With about £4000 to spend we need to replace the Ignis with something a bit more practical for carting a baby and it's associated bits. Other criteria are:

Not too big, no more than my Focus anyway!
5 doors.
Can fit a baby seat, obviously.
Reasonable luggage space.

Engine size / performance isn't a major consideration, she doesn't really drive the Suzuki like it's intended anyway! When she goes back to work it will be a 20 minute commute to her office, plus occasional town driving and some A roads.

We had a look at the Nissan Note which seems quite nice, although it has a bit of an OAP image! Or would another Focus / Golf type car be better? The boot space in mine is OK, but not stellar.

If you're still awake, thanks for any advice!

Edited to add - before anyone mentions it, she would love an MX-5!

I'd look at something like a Mk1 Leon (maybe even a hot one)
Or a left field choice. Fiat Bravo? They do them with the 1.4 Turbo engine fitted to the Abarth 500/GP.
Can get a 57 for about 4k.

With a mere 23k miles?

You may think I am barking mad, but what about?

Good to drive, great visibility, easy to park, room for little one's seat in the front or back, and good luggage space too.
