The weather is horrendous in Somerset this evening. What's the betting the outside lane was still full of plonkers doing 70mph 1 inch behind the car in front when all this began to kick off frown

There were some right idiots on the M5 motorway further up at teatime tonight. I was only on for two junctions (16 to 18) and folk were hurtling along at 80 mph + in the fast lane. There was a Parsons artic going full pelt in the middle lane even though there was no-one driving in the inside lane - he was forcing everyone into the outside lane to overtake him. You can see easily how multiple accidents happen.

All sorts of rumours flying around on Twitter, but the police have just said that the motorway may be shut for 24 hours. Sadly, I think we can draw our own conclusions from that statement.

sounds nasty lets hope not too many people suffer, 25 cars is a huge pile up for a UK motorway and any fire is bad news with that many cars.

Terrible news, our roads are statistically very safe but that'll mean very little to the families of those involved tonight.

I dont know what the cause is but i'd be willing to bet someone was 'driving too fast for conditions' and doing that very British thing of driving 3 inches behind the car in front at 80mph regardless of weather.

Terrible tragedy, could of been avoided if folks heeded the advice given in weather warnings, such as keep extra distance due to reduced visibility, allow for standing water etc.

Doesn't sound too good. Just spoken to my mum who drove the road a few hours ago to check she was home safe, she said it wasn't too busy but don't think it really takes much if rain and fog are involved frown
