What Car to Beat an XJR?

Hello,

My friend has bought a W reg XJR from the classifieds on here. Paid around £3k and the car is in good nick and goes like stink. It's his first car and he previously drove a super mini. In the interest of friendly rivalry, one-upmanship and jealousy I'm now trying to find something that will beat it. I'm struggling so far, closest thing is a S600 Bi-Turbo. Nothing seems to match price, speed, displacement and power. I don't want to buy an XJR now he's got one.

Any suggestions?

The only true rival to the early XJRs was the equivalent M5 of the time.

So little difference in out an out performance, but the M5 was the 'sports' car and the XJR was the quick cruiser.

No chance of getting a decent XKR or even a semi decent E39 M5 for the same price! I also vote for an XJR with the pulley upgrade and a few other sneaky mods.

Beat in what way, performance? Luxury? For performance I can think of any number of cheap Japanese cars, and for luxury any number (well two or three) cheap German cars, a few have already been mentioned.
Both in the same package for 3k? I'm beat. I think that's really cheap for an XKR, a look in the classifieds with lowest price first brings one up at £5350. 3k for are car that looks that good, goes that well and has a Jaguar badge? I have to wonder what's wrong with it.
