Dear fellow enthusiasts,

On Saturday 11th January 2014 our EVO was stolen from Newcastle-Under-Lyme in Staffordshire. We had a couple of asian guys turn up to our house in a Mercedes C63 AMG Coupe - dark silver - to test drive an EVO 8 we were selling. During the test drive and swapping seats to change drivers - the guy boosted off with the car! He had an accomplice in the back of the C63 (blacked out windows) to jump in the drivers seat of that car and boost off together. We can't believe it!

Please find below further details on the car:

2003 (53) Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII Ralli Art FQ300, only travelled 60,000 miles, finished in metallic silver with black and blue cloth and suede upholstery, Racaro front bucket seats. As seen in the pictures it also has some (admittedly) fairly tasteless wheels on it! Which hopefully will make it easier to identify, even if they turn up on eBay!

Please if anyone has any information that might lead to anything get in touch

Many thanks.

From a gutted petrol head.

Wonder if the Merc was stolen too? Might be a lead there...

I don't. I hope they crash and die in a fiery ball (with no collateral damage). I wouldn't want the car back once it has been stolen, and knowing it became the perpetrators' coffin would be a satisfying end.

I think it probably was - had scratches all over one side of it and was generally in a bit of a mess. Unfortunately don't have the plate number of the C63. Police said this same duo had recently beaten up a salesman and broken his collarbone in the Stoke On Trent area and stolen a car in the same week too. scum.

OP, isn't that an Evo 8 unless you changed the bonnet & front bumper?

Sorry about your situation but at least you and the Mrs were left unharmed.

Might be worth mentioning it has been completely kitted as an Evo 8 so people know what to keep an eye out for. For example, the panels may well turn up for sale locally but will obviously advertised as evo 8 bits.

3rd guy hiding in the boot eh? the lengths these toe rags will go to.......

i bet its quite a shock to see your car being driven off like this.

Get on the Lancer owners club website too. alert people to cheap EVO parts they are offered etc. and check gumtree and ebay for anything that could have come off your car. some cars arent broken and get shipped overseas.

did it have tracker ?

Did it have a tracker?

I know two guys that have them and they both had to have trackers fitted before they could get insurance just because they're such a high value target for things like this.

Also check out the MLR forum, seems like an Evo can't move in this country without getting spotted on there.

Exactly the same thing happened to a friend of mine about a year ago. Same thing, two asians, looked at the car, drove away with the car when they were swapping drivers. The car stolen was an Audi RS4, the car they turned up in was a BMW M6 which also turned out to be stolen from the Birmingham area.

Sorry to hear about your car and hope you get it all sorted soon.

Thanks everyone, appreciate the support, we're totally shocked - you just don't believe your eyes at the time! Fortunately no one was hurt - the police said the same duo beat up a salesman in the area, broke his collarbone and stole his car too. So in one way we were lucky.

Swapping drivers??? Were you letting them drive????

I'm going to be selling my evo later this year and no-one will be getting anywhere near the drivers seat without me speaking to their insurers to confirm insurance and their car keys left with a friend.

Not looking forward to selling it after reading this and a few other horror stories. I think I may have to get a couple of mates to come round for any viewings.

One of my friends also offered to let me do the viewings at his house and to make it clear that the car is not kept at that address to avoid any potential non-sale/late night visit.

Sad state of affairs.

Really sorry to hear about this OP. fking pricks

I know with hindsight it's obvious but when selling a car and they ask for a quick drive you think it's reasonable at the time, especially when one turns up in C63 - WHAT WAS A I THINKING!
