House Music - How it was

My stereo at home will be blasting out some serious tunes this weekend.
Who remembers:
Nu Shooz - I cant wait / Jacks Back
Royal House - Can you party
Marshall Jefferson - Move your body
808 State - Pacific
Sheer class
Acieeeeed
Ah, the days before it just became thump-thump fodder for Lax Power lunatics.
Can't stand it now of course. IMO Dance of all kinds should (technically) been killed off by Britpop, ecstasy and egomaniacal DJs, but it seems like it's been on a life-support machine since 1996, churning out rubbish. Time to turn it off, methinks.

This evening I will mostly be enjoying the vinyl selected by Dave Seaman at The Gallery at Turnmills, Clerkenwell, London.
Ah... those were the days... Saturday night double, Mrs Woods at Heaven followed by Tony De Vit at Trade. I can smell the poppers from here.

Should have added a non-serious smily there Plotloss - I didn't really mean it should stop and I like stuff by Roykksop, Fatboyslim, DJ Shadow, Moby and the like, I just wonder about these 'Trance Nation Volume 90 Ibiza rubbish mixed by a DJ with his head up his arse' albums which don't seem to have much variety on them - just louder, faster and more incomprehensible than last year's.
That and my preferred music involves guitars, but don't get me wrong, I don't hate Dance as a whole.
Drum 'n' Bass on the other hand...

Good lad!!
Indeed, the sellthrough record that is in fact mixed by a rather clever Pioneer machine not a human at all is the shocking end of dance music.
However the quality that is still coming out of the UK is still the best on earth.
Check out Layo and Bushwacka - Its up to you (Lee Cabera Remix) its nothing short of astounding...

How to get a modern dance hit:
Take one German "DJ" with one of the following attributes: excessive height/excessive uglyness/an annoying voice (pref all three).
Carefully mix in one beautiful singer (pref blonde, pref not a good singer).
Using a keyboard (computer or otherwise) take an originally successful dance record and rerecord sped-up with a few extra high pitched beats thrown in.
Garnish with a stupid comment by the DJ such as "ALL RIGHT! LETS GO"
Watch the track shot to No. 1 and out of the windows of the nearest Vauxhall Nova.

Drum and bass is an acquired taste. Certain aspects of it are quite superb I think.
For example, I defy anyone not to enjoy at least the first five minutes of Goldies seminal "Inner City Life". Astoundingly good.
Some Roni Size and Bukem stuff is quite accessible too.
PS - helped out with a house track from the '80s called "Its a Fine Day" by a group called Opus 3. Anyone remember it?
